What do you get when the majority of county commissioners and the City Council are older than dirt, stuck in the memory of the oil boom of the early 80's AND consider the building of a water park and a theme park bad ideas because they will draw undesirable characters?

Or try this, 15 million of city and county funds spent on a biotech business "incubator" with no provisions of containment areas higher than stage 2?

Anyone else live in counties where this shit goes on/

Or the drought...the town right above Austin has scheduled to open a water park in 2014...where is the water coming from? Central Texas is in a middle of a bloody drought!

Actually, the area where the water park was to be located had easy access to two water sources, the salt fork of the brazos or wells. Most of the county is sitting over a nice aquifer, but no matter.

I was not going to vote on the poll but....

If these people want to swim, let them go to the water park in New Brafnels(?)...it is served by the Comal river and it is COLD!!!!

Shahar, there are four major employers in this county...

Tigre` boats, the Air Force Base, and the service industry (hotels, restaurants, fast food) as well as the Blue Cross/Blue Shield call center. What few oil patch jobs are not for wells locally, but further out in the Permian Basin OR New Mexico or Oklahoma.

The city tried to capitalize on the fact that the Texas Forts Trail basically starts in this area, so they came up with Frontier Texas. Eight million for a tourist attraction that basically doesn't, an open area for a farmers market (but only on wed and thur) not on the weekends when people are off and could actually do some shopping.

Since turning down the water park and theme park because they would draw undesirable people, they have managed to get four new prisons in the area and helped to fund halfway houses for those inmates getting out on parole. Drawing the kind of people they didnt want coming here because of the parks.

Several industries have looked at land here, but the powers that be would not offer any incentives to get them to buy and build here.
