Status: offline 		Who is your hero and why?
 
My hero is my sister. Against all odds, she put herself through collage, held down a full time job and yet raised 6 kids basically on her own, who are now very successful adults. One is the systems admin. for LJ and one works for Robohouse. One is in collage and one manages a restaurant. I think that their success is a testament to my sisters influence on them, during their formative years. Her work ethics are impeccable, her morals are above reproach. I can only hope to be the type of woman that she is.

Status: offline 		As a group, The chopper pilots who came in armed in dirty cloudy and/or heavy rain to medivac us out of the hills in 'Nam.. They are the unsung heros of a nasty dirty war that should never have happened... There is a special place in my heart for you guys.....


Neets, even when she is almost in tears with her own pain she never forgets me when I'm face down on a pillow screeming with pain.. Her heart (and her Parents too) as as big asQueensland and generous to boot. She was happy to take me on knowing my disabilities and how it would further disable me from doing much about the house. She is my personal heroine.

I have to agree with you on this. I don't know the people that helped you, but there are countless unsung heros from all the wars who are very special to those they helped one way or the other.  To all of the unsung heros. May God bless them wherever they are.

Erin, that is so sweet. I wish that I could say that about my own father. Is it just a figure of speech when you say "If only they still made men like him"? Because if not, who are "they"? Are you talking about how he was raised to become the man that he is today? I know it is kind of hi-jacking my own thread, but I am curious as to what you meant by your comment. I know that youngsters are being raised alot differently than when I was a child, partly because of both parents having to work, kids are left to their own devices, the www, and chatlines.  I don't mean to pry, and if you only meant it as a figure of speech, then ignore what I have typed here lol

Status: offline 		My Father is a decorated war hero...but if you ask him about it he will tell you that it's not something he likes to talk about, but that he only did his job.

My Father began working to support his family in grade school after his father abandoned his Mother and his four brothers.

My Father committed to my Mother...and from that moment forward he was not aware that another woman existed in this world.

My Father dedicated his life to my Mom and us kids. He worked hard and long hours...we never had much growing up...but we knew how much we were loved. After his long hard days he always had time for us. He taught me to read by the age of 3...he taught all of us that way. He taught me to box. He taught me to hunt...and fish. He taught me to speak my mind and stand up for myself. He also taught me to be a lady. He taught me morals...and values....and principles...and he taught me how important they were. He taught me honesty. He has more integrity than any human being I have ever encountered...he is a man of his word. He gave me his heart and held mine safe...he gave me joy and laughter....and dried my tears and made me understand that bad times come..but better times follow. He made me understand my strength.

He is 80 years old and I finally just convinced him to retire from his long 10-12 hour days of construction. He gave his life to us so willingly....and he never once has asked or expected anything in return except for our happiness. He has supported every one of our endeavors...and he has never judged any of us for our mistakes or shortcomings.

He truly is my hero.

I guess I didn't answer your question as to who made him. I'm not sure if the way he is was just meant to be...or if he developed into it over time. It seems in "his" day there were alot of men who stood strong on principles and values...and who were men of their word. So I'm not sure who or what made him....but I'm sure glad that he "is". I'm glad that you enjoyed.

My dad taught me about determination when he had several strokes; I remember holding his hand as he would go out to the front yard and try to walk.... just a few steps at a time. The strokes also cost him his job as a pipefitter, but he would do the housework to take some of the load off my mom, and he would collect aluminum to sell to make us a little extra money.
 
My mom had to take a job at my aunt's store once daddy got sick; she had a knife held to her stomach once, and had guns pulled on her, but she never complained. She was, and is, deathly afraid of driving, but she got up at 3:00 AM every day to go open the store.... one morning, some thug tried to run her off the road, she still went to work, not letting anyone get in the way of providing for us.
 
Both of them were honest; their word was their bond. Both of them loved me deeply, and never failed to show it.

Status: offline 		I don't have anyone I would ascribe the lable too but if I had to choose a single person who I held in high regard for the person he was it would be my Grandfather.

Unsurprizingly he is the person my blood relatives all say I am most like. His ethics and courage where beyond reproach, the only blood I have that I never once heard speak a lie, a loyal friend, a formidable foe, a gentle man and a gentleman but firm and unyealding where it counted. Decorated in both Wars where he didn't wait for the draft but volenteered when he saw his country fighting a Just cause. A big man in every sense, not just height.

Status: offline 		I am sure most of you have seen me type about my Beloved Grandfather.  He is my hero.  He is the man that shaped and molded me from a wee one.  He introduced me to life head on....he told me i could be and do anything i set my mind to.  He was the one that called me smiley since i can remember.  He taught me about survival and nature..........he also taught me how to use a weapon and explosives <chucklez...my poor G.I. Joes and Army Men>  ahhhh memories. 
If he was still alive today, he would be pleased how my life turned out.
(i love you Grandpa!  <blows smoochez>  you are missed)

Status: offline 		MoGa... I have to say.. my girls are my heros right now. They're been through hell lately.. but they make sure mom is ok.

My youngest dealing with a tumor in her spinal cord.. we've been in and outta doctors and hospitals sense they found it late 2004. And we're still dealing with the "we don't know what to do with it right now" idiots...

My oldest... lord help her... was raped recently... and because of her sisters condition... kept it to herself  for 2 months... to make sure no added stress was thrown at her sister or me. She only felt because of fear of being pregnant to release this information. So it's been a hell of storm around here the past two weeks.

The sheer thought of the things my girls are going thru... makes me sick some nights. But they're strong girls... determined to make sure that others about them smile and laugh... reguardless of how much they may not be wanting to. They're my whole world... my inspiration... my joy... and everyday they show me.. life throws lemons... they just grab them up and make lemonade and sit back and enjoy the rest.

I think alot of that has to do with the lack of modern technology. In my mothers day, there was no TV, video, game boy, or computers. For years I wanted to live my life like they did on Little House on the Prairie".  Good old days? No, people worked hard on their land and worked hard to bring up their little ones with moral ethics, strong convictions and sense of pride in themselves. I am not saying that these things do not exsist in this world today, but I will say that it is not as common as it used to be.

Thank you for sharing your story. I love stories like this, and after all the BS on the boards lately, I thought a thread about the nice things in our lives would be a welcome change. Your mom and dad sound like strong people. I can see why you are so proud of them.

Status: offline 		The best thing MoGa... we all know this... and the climb back up... is being done together... guess that is why I think of my girls as my heros... they're like their mom.... strong when need be... fragile at times.. but not breakable.... and we deal with things as they happen... and move on. We don't sit and wallow in it. Life is good...sucks at times... but the good outweights the bad....
