Honestly Nick, you need to ponder my reactions to you because I AGREE WITH YOU. To be blunt, I think Peon's comment "Yes, but your definition of 'feminism' is shit, Nick. It's the lowbrow, brainless result of over a hundred years of propaganda. All you've done is accepted the standard right wing, tabloid definition of feminism, which has been pumping the same nasty old bollocks since the days of the suffragettes. " is so blinded from reality that I think he's lost in some sort of fantasy land of his own making.

It's drawn from the definition used by one of the four biggest examination boards for Political Science in the UK, Jeff, and I'm one of the chief examiners in this subject. I'll give you their email address and you can give us the benefit of your wisdom, if you like. [:)]

In related stupidity, what has the civil rights movement done for lobsters?

Good point. And I never hear any of the churches supporting the rights of Martian cyclists.

There is no special interest group that is trying to make things 'fair'.

By their very definition, special interest groups wish to make things advantageously slanted toward themselves and to hell with everyone else.

The ethical ones only try to eliminate the discrimination and disadvantage they perceive their group encounters, level the playing field, so to speak. When they accomplish this goal, I'm satisfied that makes the world a fairer place for everyone. In other words, everyone is a gainer when the world becomes more fair. That is not to say that activists openly advocate for the rights of groups besides their own. Of course not. I still say less discrimination makes the world a better place for everyone. But perhaps that's because I'm a starry eyed idealist.

Those who claim that "only my group needs help because this group always oppresses us" are to be highly suspect.

Agreed.

If you ever spot an ethical one who only does that, make sure you let me know.

In feminist literature, is anything ever the women's fault?

That's an interesting question about feminism.

Do tell us what you found in your (no doubt) extensive research into feminist literature. And please don't forget to cite your sources.

I'd be surprised if you ever managed to read a book by a feminist from cover to cover. So go on, surprise me! Show us you know what you are talking about.

I can't agree with that. I've read 20+ pages between this thread and the other one, and I'm sick with confusion. What is feminist literature? If Tweakabelle is making his point for him does her reply count as feminist literature then? The whole thing is full of 'feminists in general' do this and 'the majority of feminists' do that. My old teacher would demand the thread be rewritten.

For my part, I think the op is overreacting massively to an issue that probably does exist. I think the cultural perception of 'men' and what they are all about has become more negative. However, a quick scan of the house of commons or of the boardrooms of ftse 100 companies shows that this hasn't really had too much of an impact on men. Maybe in the future this will become an issue worth taking to the streets for, and I'm never one to shy away from a good protest, but for now I remain unconvinced.

She didn't answer the question. Her facile suggestion that he isn't qualified to ask it is bullshit: naughtynick81 is not the topic.

Nick's posts on the topics feminism/feminists/feminist literature have consistently displayed an almost total ignorance of what these topics are about. (IIRC, your musings on these topics fall into the same category.) Other posters and I have pointed this out regularly.

For as long as nick continues to post uninformed incoherent twaddle about these topics, I will continue to point out that he knows little or nothing about the subjects he is pontificating about, as I am perfectly entitled to do.

If he (or you) ever posts something worth taking seriously on these matters, I shall be delighted to respond in a similar vein. However, I won't be holding my breathe waiting for that to happen.

I don't know how you can type with your nose in the air like that. But hey, making other posters the topic instead of answering the question is a good enough answer for me.

LOL considering you are doing the same right now is hilarious
You have attacked tweak and not contributed to the topic at all

Bullshit. I'm not calling people ignorant. I'm just observing that doing so is stuffy and serves no purpose except to avoid the question. But since you want to sing backup, how about you answer it?

What are men's issues? Because I've never seen any prevailing issue that has needed the type of rallying cry that feminism has needed over the decades.

Well, rather, to be more truthful, you've never seen a bunch of rabid men bitching and moaning about shit that they're more than clear will never be resolved (moreover that they can't win the discussion for or of, regardless of the truth or facts), so they get back to the task at hand which is to be men, doing what men do instead of sitting around bitching about shit they can't solve or win the argument for.

Lucylastic -> RE: What does contemporary feminism do for men? (9/6/2013 8:34:22 PM)

I didnt say you called her ignorant, and neither did Tweak until you made her the topic.
you are calling her out because she refuses to take more of his bullshit on not backing up his statements with anything but you tube videos and MRA recommendations(written by women for the most part)
He certainly hasnt been back to prove her wrong.
singing backup? pointing out irony with more? NO thanks.
Illleave that to you:)

In the western world?

It's an open discussion.

So. . . I asked a guy this and the answer is:

It allows women to tell the man when they want to get laid and so men do not have to guess anymore or try and figure out fan signals, pillows, roses, or other weird courting rituals. Now it is just, "Honey, I'm horny."

So there you go.

Forget "his" bullshit. The bullshit of the moment is her posting insults instead of answering his question. But hey, let's not quibble. As I think I may have mentioned, her response was a good enough answer for me.

Lucylastic -> RE: What does contemporary feminism do for men? (9/6/2013 8:54:44 PM)

making an assumption it was her answer AND making her the topic.
Why should I forget his bullshit? its the topic of his post his one and only cry.

Yes, Nikki, feminism does blame itself at times.

Now that the question has been answered......

Had nikki actually read feminism literature, he wouldnt have needed to ask that question.
