Thats exactly what I said in my post Moonie. Thatcher could not have forseen that thousands of buyers would sell out to speculators. The intention was to won the house the bought, which my father did until the day he passed away.

Well perhaps you might have learned from the colonial yanks, where we had vast land giveaways to the citizens, which ended up in the hands of railroads and other corporate (trusts at the time) entities, so the citizens could be skint along the way.

I find the notion that the wicked witch couldn't forsee that one strangely unconvincing. Most of the protests about the sell off that weren't about the fact that none of the money raised was going into building replacement social housing where concerns about who'd buy the property up in the event of somebody being unable to keep up with even the reduced mortgage rate.
But concerns like that shouldn't stand in the way of inflating a bubble to hike the price of property, should they?
