Sighs.......thats not what I am telling you, I am telling you gun control works. Not more guns but less guns.

Bama remarked on Blairs daughter possibly being threatened with a real gun, It is more likely to have been an immitation but still.

The robbers ran off as some of Ms Blairs UNARMED friends appeared on the scene. Do you see where I am heading with this ?

Actually, no.

FR:
Isn't it a bit disingenuous to suggest that a local ban (not even state level) not working proves that a Federal ban wouldn't work?
The Chicago case is admittedly terrible, but it isn't proof that a nationwide gun ban would be equally as ineffective.

It sure doesn't prove it would be.

Actually, no.

Being a nice polite English criminal he wouldn't actually hurt someone with a gun because guns are bad.

Moonhead -> RE: Now tell me again.... (9/20/2013 2:02:05 PM)

Nothing short of trying it and it failing would prove that it's ineffective.
When did you people do that?

Destroy peoples rights, steal their property and if it doesn't work just "my bad" and everything is ok?

An enforced and policed gun ban, certainly would - Because there would be no guns.

Worth trying. It worked with drugs.

Right. Prisons overflowing with drug offenders. Not policed. Check.

They did exactly that in several countries - the UK and Auz to name just two.

The 'right' was given to you by the lawmakers.
Whatever rights were given can just as easily be taken away.
It just needs enough people in power to revoke it. Job done.

And don't start spouting the bit about it not being repealable - that's just an oxymoron.
Anything that declares itself to be unchanging is laughable.

And the stats prove that country-wide gun controls work.
Anything less, is again, laughable.

that in a country where buying an unregistered gun is expensive and difficoult criminals have harder times.

It was actually "just say no" for the people who might use drugs. St. Wrinklemeat sent the DEA and other assets to drug producing south american countries to eliminate the drug lords.

And K you are right, banning illegal drugs in the US has worked. It is not like you cant go down to some street corner and buy a gram of crack, coke, heroin, or anything else. I know people that actually spend 15 minutes looking for the stuff because it is so hard to find.

But our war on drugs has led to new technologies, narco submarines, semi submersibles, all that neat stuff that is so useful in the private sector.

Rights are recognized, privileges are given.

It isn't unchangeable. 38 states would have to agree to the change, not going to happen.

Not nearly as laughable as your post.
BTW is laughable British for I disagree, that seems to be the way Brits use it.

I think this statement, right here, is the real bone of contention.

For the most part, the right understands this while (also for the most part) the left seems to think that rights are granted by government.

It's interesting to note that the second amendment resides in what's referred to as the bill of rights .

The left would have us believe that any freedom we enjoy is just because of government largesse. In some cases, they believe that these rights are just there because the government hasn't managed to take them away, yet.

I was always taught that the job of government was to protect our rights; not take them away.

I really do think it's a major fault in public education that's been pushing this eroneous idea that rights are granted to us by government.

It speaks to another thread where our rights are "distilled down" to a horrible misconception.

I pity them.

I knew I would need to point it out to someone. Ms Blairs friends didnt have guns, yet the robbers still fled, so the crime was indeed stopped without more guns on the street.

No disagree is still disagree, while laughable means so ludicrous to be amusing.

When I say fucking laughable, thats contempt, pure and simple.

Hope that helps.

Thank you Eulero.

JLF, gun homicides per 100,000 in the US are 2.97 % In the UK its only 0.7 % Do you want me to do the maths ?

Again the U S murder rate with clubs exceeds the total Japanese murder rate.

This is the sort of laughable post I expect in reply to my actually pointing out stats.

You can keep your own opinion but I insist on the facts.
