I actually thought this was intended as humor... Sometimes I'm not the sharpest bulb on the tree. DarkSteven: Military members with less than six months' service tend to be given an Entry Level Separation, with no benefits of any kind, including no status as a veteran. Vets with six months or more tend to get, at minimum, healthcare benefits for service related disabilities, regardless of the length of their service. (What's counted as disabilities can sometimes be astounding.) With more than six months, but less than a full career, one can certainly be retired and be eligible for healthcare and financial benefits. Usually these are people with injuries severe enough to preclude their continued service, It's possible that the "Up or Out" policy's extension to the enlisted ranks may have had some impact on this. I just am not sure about that particular aspect.
