My sub suggested to me that it would be fun to have some sort of fairly ordinary-looking clothes that could be used for basic bondage. Partly she thinks leather gear looks tacky, and partly it's fun to be able to wear stuff in public. I think it sounds like a great idea, but I have no idea how to do it.

It would have been nice to do it from scratch, but unfortunately we have no sewing experience, and this sounds like a rather advanced project. So maybe it's better to modify some kind of existing clothes.

A skirt and some kind of top would probably be a good idea. At the most basic, it should be possible to attach the wrists somehow, preferably also the elbows like an armbinder. Another fun addition would be a skirt that you can make tighter, like a hobble skirt.

So where would you start? The material has to be strong enough that she doesn't ruin it by pulling. Maybe a denim skirt? What about the top? How do you make anchoring points that don't look conspicuous?

I'd like some advice on what sort of clothes could be modified, what features you might have, and how you would go about doing it.

velcro, its simple easy and if you do it right, takes quite a bit to move it...try a strip from under the armpit to the waist, or bottom of the shirt, then from the waist down to the wrists.
Lots of skirts/pants, come with belt loops....built in restraint points you can reinforce them, use wunder web to tighten skirt seams.
Get a pair of gloves and sew the fingers together to make "mittens"
all simple easy to modify and beginner friendly.
Humbly disagree that Leather is tacky, but to each their own.
:)

Lining a tight bra with tacks or sandpaper is a good option for torment.

Even so, the topic of items to line one's bra with is always a worthy one. The day I put chocolates in my bra and let them melt over me throughout the day still ranks as one of my favorites. No bondage involved, but it was delicious.
