I picked the Daily Mail version of this story to get the appropriately outraged tone:

Reason: Usual post-modernist blather.

My first reaction was "and this is art how" but I suppose it's possible...depending on delivery and assuming they're performing arts students.
The whole idea, however, sounds more appropriate for a behavioral science study especially having a Q&A discussion afterwards.

I certainly wouldn't be interested in purchasing a ticket. If I want to see a show of two people getting it on, all I need is a mirror.

It's art because it's a Quirky lad during the ascension of "Glee". If it was a hetero woman engaging in the loss of 'her third virginity', it wouldn't be allowed, no-one would publish an article, and it would never have any media attention at all.

If it was a boi giving her Greek Rosebud to a butch it's be news, and mainly Santa Cruz and SF Bay Area news, and likely subsidized by the same tax dollars that put $ towards Abhramovitch stuff.

Well, it's not art as defined by prudes, ancients or homophobes: but I'll accept it as a form of performance art.

According to the article, the plan meets the criteria for what performance art is and what it portends to achieve. Also, the academic community's role is limited to: having been informed of the project and informing the man (one of their students) on likely consequences of participating in such a project. The plan is not a school project, graded or otherwise. He's just a student who learned about performance art at their school.

It will create an impetus for an emotional reaction in the viewer as they watch a one-time, impossible to repeat, performance. (one specific man losing his virginity)

To sum up... he's putting his ass on the line. I can respect that.

Hit the nail right on the head. Being framed as performance art, I don't think many people in the audience will walk away with the intended message in mind. Just, "Hey, I saw two guys having sex today and they called it art!"

If it's art or not depends on how it is perfomed, I mean a woman being forced to an orgasm with a Magic Wand is usually pronography, but the "hysterical litterature" serie for the setting and the performances are quite interesting as artistical project.

Art or no,,,,,,This might hurt if I just drive to the core of this question.
So, Anal sex. is sex.
Sex has been said to be a art form
So Anal sex being sex is there fore an art form?
or is it just sex?
Let me get used to the idea a little......

If you consider "art" to be anything that evokes a strong emotional response in the viewer... maybe. Revulsion is an emotion, right?
