Littlewonder, dear, I don't want to ask what kind of a crackpot your doc is but......wtf. A venous insufficiency was what in the long run cost me my leg. Of course there was other damage done to my leg but it is the act of blood 'pooling' in your foot that puts not only your leg but your very life in danger. Left untreated venous insufficiency can/does lead to blood clots, pain, cramps, and in extreme cases it can lead to the veins that carry your blood collapsing. Which may or may not be repairable. I would agree with Annie and suggest you tell your doctor that 'no' to just elevating your legs. I know dealing with doctors can be a pain but don't let them back you down on this one. You said you can barely walk now, surely you don't want it getting any worse.

I'm in complete agreement with you and why I'm trying to find a new doc but it's extremely difficult around here. It takes months to get in just to talk to someone and the majority of the time it's a nurse or such and not an actual doctor. It seems here in Baltimore there are just not enough doctors or they just don't care to see patients. I don't know.

It's one of the reasons I asked about the numbness and if anyone else has experienced this. It's just not going away or getting better and the docs around here talk to you for 5 mins, send you for blood-work, call you with results and tell you it's nothing and that's pretty much it and if you ask for more they tell you it's in your head or you're exaggerating. It's beyond frustrating.

I have edema in my feet. At first, the doctor waved it off, thinking it was nothing. When I came in 2 weeks later wearing size 10 canvas slip on shoes, he saw that I was having trouble. Went for testing by a neuro and a cardio because I was also losing the feeling in my feet. I blame Dad for this shit. If I can remember to take my Lasix, I can wear a size nine comfortably. Usually my swelling takes place in the evening now so I usually prop them up when I go to bed.

Get it taken care of it soon. There is nothing like a postal brother having to haul you to the doctor's office and make the doctor take a look...
