DesideriScuri -> Will President Obama send in the military? (11/11/2013 8:38:05 AM)

http://news.yahoo.com/north-korea-publicly-executes-80-people-033055520.html

80 public executions.

Only two infractions were listed in the article: prostitution and "watching illicit South Korean TV dramas."

Maybe it's time for another red line for Obama to draw and not draw.

No, it's not. We can't solve all the world's problems, especially when we can't solve our own. This Pax Americana is exactly the same mistake that every other major power, and many minor ones have made over the centuries, and the result is always decline and eventual collapse. As repugnant as NK is, do you really want to fight a major war with them?

Fuck no, I don't want to! I didn't want to get involved in Syria. I thought it was wrong to get involved in Libya.

If he had the authority to act unilaterally in Syria, he has it to act in North Korea.

Ho could one-up Bush too, as NK has WMDs. [:D]

Only 80?
Doesn't China do that on a daily basis?
This is what direction the current U.S. govt. is headed in, the "state" getting involved in all the business of The People and trying to dictate what they can and cannot do.
Thomas Jefferson was right, we need to hang (in public) politicians on a regular schedule.
And no, we shouldn't be getting involved in foreign countries like Syria, Libya, Haiti, Somalia, Egypt, the Sudan or any other country.
We're just not getting the right type of people in govt.

This is exactly what we've been doing for decades. I'm opposed to the imperial spread of the US military. I'm opposed to our being the World Police, too.

Just another day in the People's Paradise...

vincentML -> RE: Will President Obama send in the military? (11/11/2013 12:51:28 PM)

If they were watching Psi and Gangnam Style the executions might be justified, although I rather like him. [;)]

We can all thank God that we don't live in such a tyrannical hell-hole, but beyond that I don't know what we in the West can do about it.

China quite obviously stepped up for a chat with their little god-king about making a stink at the grown-up's table a while back, but I doubt human rights abuses are going to motivate them to push for reform.

Any thinking person knows we have all sorts of plans in the file cabinet for taking North Korea if we had to, but the red line on executing those has been clearly established for 50 years. You need 28,000 dead US troops to start with, and that number gets a lot bigger before all is said and done.

RottenJohnny -> RE: Will President Obama send in the military? (11/11/2013 2:49:15 PM)

FR

And yet, they aren't executing people for coming in contact with Dennis Rodman?

The one beautiful thing about the PRNK is that as much as the rest of the world may want to hate the U.S. we can always point at NK and say, "At least we're not as bad as those guys."

Hillwilliam -> RE: Will President Obama send in the military? (11/11/2013 3:10:45 PM)

No oil = no invasion

Dvr22999874 -> RE: Will President Obama send in the military? (11/11/2013 3:16:10 PM)

I'm in full agreement with DesideriScuri, but then again, I guess I would be. I never voted for anybody to be the worlds police force and it seems to be costing a lot of lives.

MrRodgers -> RE: Will President Obama send in the military? (11/11/2013 6:30:55 PM)

Well this kind of govt. murder is a sure fire way to keep your 'paradise' in check. That's why the western press doesn't go there similar to a few other places. Even talking to the press and even if you are praising dear leader...you're in serious trouble.

Sounds just about like here.

Polygraphs for IRS employees.....

[sarcasm]
Well shit, Texas is BEATING THEM in executions. Unlike North Korea, Texas has a Schedule List of Executions. Texas also has prostitution and I'm sure there are people in that state crazy enough to watch South Korean TV dramas. Maybe we should invade Texas since a good portion of Republicans who tried to crash our country's financial health a few weeks ago came from there. Or the al Qaeda version in America, often called the 'Tea Party' comes from there too. Unlike North Korea, Texas isn't to far from the United States. Its like its just next door to us....

Oh yes, we sure can "thank god" for that. Too bad I'd say at least once a week I run into someone who wants to communicate with me but has concerns about the US govt and it's massive domestic surveillance. I have conversations pending with a few people that need to wait for plane tickets because they don't believe any encryption method is secure. None of these people are planning the overthrow of anything and none of these conversations, to the best of my knowledge, would involve anything that any reasonable person would think "treasonous". Yet still, those conversations are already stifled. Yeah, thank god we don't live in a place like NK.

Is the US at NK's position yet? No. Are we a LOT further down that road than most realize. You bet.

Using sarcasm tends to mean that whatever you're being sarcastic about isn't really what you support, yet...

mnottertail -> RE: Will President Obama send in the military? (11/12/2013 6:31:07 AM)

It appears to be irony (which is right next to lying in bed with it akin to scarcasm).
