MDA,
You might try E-stim? Besides fun play it does have pain blocking ability when applied correctly and in the right cases. A good discussion to have with your doctor or PT. Not a solution to the source of your pain but a possible drug free solution for some relief.

Mummy! So good to see you posting! How have you been?

You must have remembered my propensity for estim. The PT gave it a try on me and I was so hopeful. Unfortunately, it aggravated my shoulder. I have not given up though; she had me wired THROUGH the shoulder and I think it was just too dang much. I'm going to experiment with channels wired for surface stim only that don't slice a direct charge through deep muscle tissue; skin-deep only like acupuncture. Never say die!

Chatte, you would be proud of me today. I actually took a Tramadol. Suffering's for martyrs!

Dreamless, I bought bromelain today. From what I could find, it takes 5 days of 2 capsules tid (3 times daily) to bring up the level to what they called 'loading dose', then you can back it down to 3 total.

What is the dosage you take and how often?

Probably a little too much. I've been out of the sling most of the day and USING that arm...let's hope I wasn't over-ambitious!

Dreamless, to find a good chiropractor, I strongly suggest that if you know any serious equestrians you ask them for a reference. Because it's a sport that causes a lot of injuries and every competitive rider I know, swears by them.

Hi Chatte,
I get a little free time here and there now and again :) Good to see you are still very active here.
Too bad the idea it did not help MDA :(

MDA,
I did remember your propensity for estim :) I have had a lot of real time success with blocking lower back pain with estim. If anyone can find the right solution with estim it will be you :) I hope you feel better soon.

MDA - Another vote for TENSing (and experimenting until you find the right setting for you for pain)

Perhaps you'd enjoy reading some Jon Kabat-Zinn at the time?

Ah yes, my friend Jon KZ. ^^^ I've been acquainted with him for a long time now. :-) Thank you for the suggestion.

I am happy to report that for WHATEVER reason, maybe ALL the reasons, I am beginning to loosen up a bit. I was out of the sling most of the day today and played 2-hand piano at rehearsal without too much agony...yet.

It could be bromelain, stretching in a hot shower, the correct intention while meditating, a little ibuprofen though I'm not supposed to, and 1 tramadol a day on top of it, ice, heat, laser, Sombra turbo-charged with extra capsaicin and menthol. The band has a very challenging gig coming up in a few weeks. If it takes pain meds on top of the holistic stuff, that's what it takes to get through this.

I just got word the accordion I ordered in early Aug. will be here Thurs. I have forbidden myself to play it until recovered, but my neighbor said he would so I could hear how it sounds :-)

Thanks all for your suggestions and continued good wishes.

I'm appreciating this thread quite a lot. I have an old shoulder injury (ok only 2 years, but it sounds so much more ROBUST when I say it's and OLD injury... but I digress). This injury gets in teh way of some of my favorite activities - salsa dancing, biking, weight lifting. While the dancing doesn't require any weight bearing - unlike the other two - the angle / position of my arm hurts like the devil sometimes.

I'm using the Korean version of icy hot patches. i'm hoping it improves (unlikely that it will)

best,
sunshine

Sunny, sorry to hear you're suffering. It's a miserable sumbitch, ain't it? Is it one or both of your shoulders?

As with any injury, I have learned to appreciate how much my shoulders have done for me in the past. While I'm at it, I take a few moments to thank each body part in turn. It's easy to take them for granted and ignore them when working properly.

Yikes, that's how it started for me. Then because the right side had to do double duty (as well as being the naturally dominant one) for the left, it is now painful and weak as well. OK fine, I tell them, go through your processes and I'll take care of both of you...somehow.

Gee, I felt so positive and energetic this morning. Now it's raining and both my shoulders ache. Time for my 'I let go of pain' meditation. It will work.

Feel better, Sunny :-)

Thanks! I'm actually going on a very long bike ride this weekend... I'll be popping pain pills, yes I will. Because I WANT to do this ride. I rested my shoulder today, and it should be okay tomorrow. When I rode my bike across country, I woke up at 3 in the morning one night in pain. TOTALLY WORTH IT. TOTALLY. When we finished that ride, I was over the moon! I'm telling myself that it will be the same this weekend. When I finish my goal, I'll be delighted I did it! So, ibuprofen - you're mine!!!
