To OsideGirl: I sort of understand what you mean by touting the wonders of the "old stuff". Supposedly codeine & hydrocodone make for great cough suppressants...but since they've received negative publicity for being in the big, bad Opiate category, unless you go to a doctor to obtain an Rx, you're pretty much stuck with the otc remedies. Dextromethorphan = synthetic codeine. Any kind of cough medication with the suffix "DM" will contain the abovementioned. To get rid of the congestion or to loosen it up so's you can go , "ccchhhhock...TOOEY!" and spit out the cause of the funtime cough..go for guaifenisin. I forgot how they initialize it. Best bet: go for a medicine that contains both. Or, iffen ya'll don't wanna go that route, there's allus the hot herb tea (check with one of the wise old sages at your local healthfood store WHICH herbal tea is most effective), throw some honey into it & hope for the best. And avoid dairy foods as they will exacerbate mucous production. It also can't hurt to toss some vitamin C & zinc down the hatch. Any doubts, c'k with the pharmacist. They're more knowledgeable than doctors 'bout these things. ES
