TaurusMCMLVIII -> BDSM movie recommendations (11/18/2004 11:32:15 PM)

Another thread mention a movie web site and it reminded me of a question I have been meaning to ask. I have a couple BDSM movies on CD but I wasn't really too thrilled with the quality.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good BDSM movie?

I would prefer one with at least a little effort in the plot. Some semi-intelligent dialogue would be great. And, of course, the BDSM activity should be hot. It would be great to get one movie with a "sensuous" rating and another more "edgier".

Although this is a mainstream flick and not pornography, I recently saw "Mercy" with Ellen Barkin and it was really pretty good. Check that out.

happypervert -> RE: BDSM movie recommendations (11/19/2004 5:43:05 AM)

here's a link to another movie thread

But I suppose there are a lot of flicks that can be viewed as having BDSM content -- whenever I hear the word "flogging", that scene from The Hunchback of Notre Dame comes to mind, though that was non-consensual.

Happy, this is totally off subject (forgive me) but Blockbuster did not have Hero. If you get a copy, hook me up, k?

On the subject, I remember Story of O that I watched as a teenager. I can't seem to find it anywhere to rent--any ideas?

i found a copy of The Story of O on Amazon.com for about 12$. It is VHS but i was just thrilled to find it at all.

Also, not exactly BDSM...but In the Realm of the Senses was good too... breath play as a means to arousal...extreme CBT.

Unless I am overlooking it, I don't see anyone recommending "Secretary". It is a fairly recent and relatively good Ds movie.

I didn't care for the Secretary because it continued Hollywood's tradition of portraying people in the lifestyle as psychotic. For someone to enjoy or like lifestyle activity they have a deeper problem. In the Secretary, she was a 'cutter', he obsessively compulsive. I don't think there has every been a love story made with a lifestyle oriented couple.

While i agree often D/s ers are portrayed as having a deeper problem, i have also found that it is often true in real life as well...just take a close look at the number who have some involvement in the scene that have also had an occasion of sexual abuse at some point in their life (myself included)...one of the things i enjoyed about the Secretary was that they both seemed to struggle with their desires, him more than her in the movie...from personal experience, i know that i've often struggled with this part of my nature...wondering how much simpler life might be if i went for vanilla...that is not how i'm wired, however.

It seems i've gotten off of the point here...though i will say one last thing about entertainment portrayals of us as a group...it's one thing where we are no different than anyone else...we hate to see ourselves portrayed as somewhat disturbed...as do gays, transgendered folk and other groups...if we choose to enjoy a movie that say, portrays Italians as mobsters, we must remember that every now and then it will be our turn to be portrayed in a less than flattering light.

You may have a point, but it is not universal. Besides being submissive, I do not really have any emotional or psychological issues. No drugs or alcohol addictions. Was not molested as a child. I would love to see a portrayal of us as mentally stable. Kinky does not mean crazy.

LadySonelle -> RE: BDSM movie recommendations (11/20/2004 4:15:55 PM)

I have not seen it on DVD, but if you can locate the film "The Naughty Victorians" by all means get it!

It has a simple, but believable plot, excellent attention to historical details, EXCELLENT production values (with exterior shots, expensive sets and period details) as well as a clever Gilbert and Sullivan soundtrack!
D&S meet G&S! There are some very clever puns worked in for the G&S aficionado as well! The score is orchestral only, but those who know their Filbert and Sullivan will chuckle to such auditory puns as "Titwillow" played during the lesbian scene, "Three little maids from school are we" during the groupsex and "A Wandring minstrel, I, a thing of shreds and tatters" as maidenheads are ravished!

The acting is precise and accurate to the Victorian sensibilities, the costuming is superb and expensive, the sets are lavish and utterly convincing and the entire story a joy to experience. It is a re-telling, of course, of the story "A Man and a Maid" and loses nothing of the flavour of that tale!

Another wonderful historical piece is "Salon Kitty" which is the story of a brothel run by the SS in Nazi Germany to extract secrets from visiting dignitaries. Again, the expense of the sets, the acting and the costuming are very well done.

For the more esoteric, less BDSM, but very watchable, the House of Dreams is a winner. It has been many years since I have seen it, but it stands out in My mind as a very erotic and moving film with peopole appearing, disappearing on camera and floating through a surreal somewhat Dreyeresque white-on-white landscape of a home.

Other films which I recommend are Autobiography of a Flea, House of Pain, S&M Home Movie and The Damned. All definitely worthy of a place in the aficionado's shelf. Some are far harder to obtain, but well worth the hunt!

"The Secretary" is one of those flms I can just watch over and over again and not get tired of, i really enjoyed it. I really think it captured the essence of the first stages when a person discovers their true nature, submissive or dom, the self realization which can be so confusing and tormenting. Not everyone goes through it i know, but i sure as hell did. The movie has an obsessive compulsive control freak which begins to come to terms with the fact he is a dom, the girl is a true submissive and also tormented by these strange feelings she self inflincts pain to get a level of satisfaction she has not been able to reach, she doesn't understand it but when she becomes this man's secretary who is so controling and dominant and humilates her, it just begins to click for them and things just fall into place little by little, I personally found it fascinating and loved the whole mental aspect of it, because that's what i enjoy about bdsm, not just the ropes and whips etc, but the actual TPE, the mental dominance and submission. As far as Hollywood portraying s/mer's as crazy or that there's some underlying reason for wanting to be in this type of relationship and having these needs, well, i personally feel that is probably the case with most. I know i have my underlying reasons, i had a very doninant father, a submissive mother, i was molested as a child and later craved that feeling of being manipulated and used, i know exactly why i have these desires as an adult, it's no surprise to me and i actually embrace it, hell i don't want to be a "normal vanilla" person, i am glad i'm disfunctional enough to want something different out of life. Anyhow, 2 thumbs up for "The Secretary" glad to know others have watched this movie besides me! i was starting to think no one else had seen it!

One that we have enjoyed is called "Fashionistas". It's about a latex designer and kinda has a plot.[;)]

CTclay -> RE: BDSM movie recommendations (12/15/2004 5:59:18 PM)

For some reason, The Secretary did absolutely nothing for me. Not a thing. I like the power-exchange aspect of BDSM too, but ... well, this motion picture just didn't affect me. I saw it with a domme who was disappointed that it didn't reverberate with me, but, you know what? It didn't do anything for me. And I didn't much like it, either. And my domme didn't even punish me for having such a reaction, which would have been kind of nice, but there you go and now she's gone and the whole experience just exists as a gray, boring, limp, bland BLAAAAAH of an experience that wasn't even painful enough to be a living nightmare. All I ask for is a little entertainment now and then again in life and what do I get? The Secretary leaving me on hold. Listening to boring elevator music. (That's a metaphor.)

ignatiaus -> RE: BDSM movie recommendations (12/15/2004 10:35:05 PM)

Fashionistas is very hot ... S&M and sex all in one movie :-) - definitely XX

Rocco Sefferedi is in a few more S&M type movies (pornos) - Rocco's Way has some interesting stuff although one of the main characters has a snuff fantasy (her own life). The scenes with the hooded girl kept in the closet are very hot.

There is a French film - not a porno - about a knife thrower and a girl that falls for him. There is one very intense scene in the middle of the movie where they can get off only by him throwing the knives at her. I'll try to remember the name.

It will be fun searching. Ig

http://www.jollyroper.com/fflist/fflist.html

Has a listing of movies with BDSM scenes or themes that can be rented from your local video store. A large amount of Japanese Anime has some kink to it.

And in many cases, despite being animation, better plots and charater development than your average Hollywood movie. [:-]

two that came to mind, though not very edgy: 9 1/2 weeks and wild orchid. both with micky roarke.

Most people make a movie to make some cash and don't realise that they'ld make more money from a quality product...Mike

"Preaching to the Perverted" is very funny. Especially if you've seen the London fetish scene.
