All diabetics are not alike. You need to find out what works for your body. Monitor closely and your glucose reading 2 hours after a meal should not exceed 140.

I am a Type 1 with an insulin pump that gives me insulin every hour. My insulin before meals is calculated according to how many sugars/carbs are consumed. My pancreas makes NO insulin after almost shutting down due to sepsis.

I find that whole grain and multi-grain work best for me with pasta and bread. I stay away from the white stuff to avoid a glucose spike that can affect me for hours. Also brown rice, sweet potatoes work best. Anything white is not my friend.

I have to make sure my sugar doesnt go too low as I take heart meds that cover up symptoms of hypoglycemia. Once my reading went down to lower 40's and for a week I didnt use my pump at all, just had three square meals and no insulin. Luckily, Ive never passed out.

My dog alerts me when my pump needs attention and I dont respond to the beeping. She once woke me from a dead sleep and I found that there was a kink in the tube so I wasn't getting any insulin delivery. She watches me like a hawk when I change out the set up or add more insulin. This came natural to her and she wasnt train as such. When my sugar goes awry she looks at me and I swear I can see worry in her face. 90% of the time my sugar is screwed up.

Please be careful. This disease is serious and you must take care of yourself. My recent A1C was 6.2 and if I can do it so can you. Normal A1C is 6.0 from what I understand.

Take care.

Today I finally got around to getting a testing kit and all the supplies that go along with it. I had to wait till payday because my insurance will cover a 30 day supply per month and those things are sold in 50 day supplies.. so basically the coverage means NOT covered. What a catch 22.

That sucks. Well before it's time to get a new kit, work with your doctor and insurance company to find one that is covered.

I think I am probably going to end up similar to your diet. Eating veggies and proteins with no carbs raised my blood sugar close to the 370 range. I eliminated most sugar except that which comes naturally from veggies and fruits and that seems to be better but not by much. I am a carb-o-holic so taking out carbs is very difficult.
I was reading a vegan book which I may try to incorporate into my diet in February if this low carb thing continues to spike my levels.

I am STILL wondering what these negatives are doing to my body. I don't get tired, disoriented, dizzy and I was losing weight. Currently I have stopped the Lactulose because that really spikes the sugar levels. My only recourse is to return to laxatives which hurt me. As a result I am back on a diet that at maximum, is 1000 calories per day. And only now that I am on meds have I gotten any sort of blurry eyesight. Prior to meds my eyesight was getting increasingly better. Now I have blurry vision in the AM hours.

You may find that most fruits will raise your blood sugar but that you do okay with low glycemic vegetables.

Adding healthy fats such as olive oil and using some coconut oil may help to stabilise your blood sugar.
I don't know what types of fiber you can have but higher fiber can also help keep things more stable.

Have you tried Miralax?

It shouldn't jerk your sugar around and it works in a similar way.
It may take several days to have any effect.

After my hospital stay they recommended Miralax and it worked. Once. There after I had to use it in combination with laxatives, though admittedly not as many.

Eventually the miracle of Laculose was introduced because apparently you are not supposed to take miralax with laxatives... lol who knew?
Laculose has been the only thing that has worked for me and the thought of going back into a very painful regimen of laxatives is not making me happy at all.

I think the amount of laxatives I had to take in order for them to work may have caused issues to my liver, pancreas and kidneys but so far no diagnosis.

As far as how they work, Miralax draws water into the colon whereas Laculose deposits sugars into your lower colon which helps to expel.

Type II is a pain but workable and I have been one for 14 years. I'm amazed at the good info posted. I test up to 8 times a day on a ridged carb/sugar restricted diet. My A1C is under 6.5.
I test before any hard exertion play or otherwise and adjust from there. It may sound extreme but its worth it in the long run.
