I think I am probably going to end up similar to your diet. Eating veggies and proteins with no carbs raised my blood sugar close to the 370 range. I eliminated most sugar except that which comes naturally from veggies and fruits and that seems to be better but not by much. I am a carb-o-holic so taking out carbs is very difficult. I was reading a vegan book which I may try to incorporate into my diet in February if this low carb thing continues to spike my levels. I am STILL wondering what these negatives are doing to my body. I don't get tired, disoriented, dizzy and I was losing weight. Currently I have stopped the Lactulose because that really spikes the sugar levels. My only recourse is to return to laxatives which hurt me. As a result I am back on a diet that at maximum, is 1000 calories per day. And only now that I am on meds have I gotten any sort of blurry eyesight. Prior to meds my eyesight was getting increasingly better. Now I have blurry vision in the AM hours. quote:
ORIGINAL: LeatherBentOne51 All diabetics are not alike. You need to find out what works for your body. Monitor closely and your glucose reading 2 hours after a meal should not exceed 140. I am a Type 1 with an insulin pump that gives me insulin every hour. My insulin before meals is calculated according to how many sugars/carbs are consumed. My pancreas makes NO insulin after almost shutting down due to sepsis. I find that whole grain and multi-grain work best for me with pasta and bread. I stay away from the white stuff to avoid a glucose spike that can affect me for hours. Also brown rice, sweet potatoes work best. Anything white is not my friend. I have to make sure my sugar doesnt go too low as I take heart meds that cover up symptoms of hypoglycemia. Once my reading went down to lower 40's and for a week I didnt use my pump at all, just had three square meals and no insulin. Luckily, Ive never passed out. My dog alerts me when my pump needs attention and I dont respond to the beeping. She once woke me from a dead sleep and I found that there was a kink in the tube so I wasn't getting any insulin delivery. She watches me like a hawk when I change out the set up or add more insulin. This came natural to her and she wasnt train as such. When my sugar goes awry she looks at me and I swear I can see worry in her face. 90% of the time my sugar is screwed up. Please be careful. This disease is serious and you must take care of yourself. My recent A1C was 6.2 and if I can do it so can you. Normal A1C is 6.0 from what I understand. Take care.
