Can someone tell me the pros and cons to attending a munch ? My slave and I are talking about it. It sounds like it's just a meeting of fellow BSDMers to discuss various aspects of the lifestyle with the possibility of a party afterwards.

Any advice would be welcome.. My first thought is that it's a means to bring couples together to plan group actifivites or parties. Is this the general theme of the meetings ?

In my limited experience of munches here in England, very little of the talk is about the lifestyle! Not to say people don't talk about it - especially those new to munches - but I guess it's more an opportunity to feel relaxed about kink coming into the conversation if that's the way the talk should move.

Yes, people do meet to arrange things at times but that's often done easier online, where everyone has diaries to hand.

Think of a munch as you might think of a meeting of, say, people from work. There's something in common that you might talk about but it's a way to socialize with a set of people and find out about them and, maybe, make new friends. One thing I have noticed is that where the munch is held in a pub (=bar for Americans), the munch group is easy to spot: they are the most relaxed, happy-looking group there.

Go along and find out. I've been to one that I left early (just not my crowd but it wasn't unpleasant) and a couple of them I try to get to as often as my schedule allows. If you're unsure of expectations (dress or behaviour code) check with the munch organiser up front - I've only been to ones where street dress and being me is acceptable.

Hello Manic,

Yes, you have the right idea of what Munches are and the purpose. Likeminded folks getting together in a social, public setting to discuss lifestyle issues. Many do in fact have activities setup for their members...anything from fetish balls to dances to how-too classes for education and learning. Cant think of any cons in only that hopefully the group you belong to will welcome you and yours with open arms and make you feel comfortable.

My sub and I were very excited to attend the local munch, it was not far from our home, and we thought it would be a great place to meet people in the lifestyle, and exchange ideas, and thoughts.
We went to the designated place, there were 9 people there, and they could not have made us less invited. It was as if we intruded on a private party.
After a period of time 2 of the women in the group came over and said hello, and that was about it.
They added me to their email list to send me dates of coming events, I received about 10 chain letters, and dumb jokes before I block any of them from ever sending me anything again.
I am sure this is not the typical munch, and I am thinking about starting up a group after the new year.
If I want to be bored to tears, I can go visit an Aunt that I have come to dislike.
