ORIGINAL: LafayetteLady The type of bike you are considering is still classified as a bicycle. It also will have restrictions on where you could ride it, not that it would matter to you since I doubt you are looking to take it on the highway. A motorcycle or any of the other things that will require insurance get added to your auto insurance, just like a second vehicle would Frankly, if someone want to get a motorcycle, they should know how to drive it safely, so a class is nothing someone should balk about. You don't handle a motorcycle like you do a car, anymorre than driving an 18 wheeler is like driving a car. Something with pedals is not really a road vehicle. More of a lazy man's bicycle. Having said that, would I like to have one? Hell yea. I don't drive and something like that would be great for running into town to go to the drug store or grab some bread at the local deli. The center of town is a mile from me. Literally up hill both ways, lol. In each direction you go down one big hill and up another. some are bicycles but have an electric motor, you can even get a kit that converts a regular bicycle to an electric bike.. those would be good if you wanted to ride the bus and then bike part of the way.. but there are e-bikes in BC, Canada that look like a scooter and they can go up to 32k/hr without requiring registration, etc.. actually you can unplug one wire and go faster than that but you risk getting stopped by a cop, if one sees you & clocks your speed.. I like those e-bikes and am seriously considering one of those just for when I am in Canada tho.. I wouldn't get one of those down here, too many cops would be trying to give tickets on those here, imo.. just don't need the hassle.. I don't have any problem taking a motorcycle class, at all.. before looking into electric bikes I was considering a motorcycle or gas scooter/moped even tho it would require registration, insurance, etc.. and a motorcycle class would help with a e-bike scooter too, I think, in certain aspects at least (balance, handling, traffic laws).. You aren't required to take a car/vehicle driving class to get a drivers license but taking a motorcycle class is a requirement to get a motorcycle license here, so its more involved (where classes are, class times, your schedule, etc).. A motorcycle class isn't a legal requirement for a motorcycle license in BC tho (recommended but not required, I think I would take one anyway).. I am not sure if I would do that down here or up there.. No, I wouldn't be taking a bike on the highway.. but even some gas scooters/motorcycles aren't allowed on the highways as they don't go fast enough..
