MDA, I've been dealing with these (both are blown out) for over two decades now. That's the problem I'm having, I've reached the end of the line for adaptation. As I type this, both shoulders are covered in Icy Hot, and I look like I'm going to play football, because I've got ice packs on both so I can work later.

And I'm sure that's one damn sexy image, isn't it? Now y'all know why I'm not in the hunt on the other side. They'll get better when it starts to warm up (I hope), but I'm getting really tired of this. Thanks for the input, I've got a couple possible alternatives to research here now.

Hey, I resemble that remark! I had ice packs on each shoulder while sitting out the majority of dances last night.

I think the toughest part for many of us is: we aren't 25 anymore, and never will be again. It breaks my heart to think I may not be the fiddler, swimmer, dancer I once was. Time to reinvent.

Again, my sympathies. You have lots of company in this.

Thank you, and everyone who commented. I do have an appointment next month with my regular doctor, and I'll get a referral to some ortho. I hate going under the knife, hospitals, doctors, nurses, the whole nine yards. I've seen the inside of more ERs than I care to admit, and I don't do well under anesthesia.

Even though my GF is an RN, I can't count on much help from her for the simple fact she's working a brutal schedule and simply won't have time to help me, and I don't like being that much an invalid. I'm used to being the one who takes care of things, not the other way around. Looks like I've gotta bite the bullet and get this dealt with the 'normal' way, I suppose.

PS, I may not be chronologically twenty-five, but I always will be inside my head, dammit.

I know it sucks, but I think it's better to get it done with than suffer forever.

I had orthopedic surgery done on my hip last week, and I had a lot of hesitance about it too. But after 6 months of having severe pain from even moderate activity, with no improvement from rest or PT or cortisone, I decided it was better just to get it over with and deal with being laid up for a while. And so far, it really hasn't been as bad as I was expecting/fearing.

You said both your shoulders are messed up, but if they only do one shoulder at a time, you'll probably be able to do a lot for yourself, yeah? I mean, you won't be able to do anything that requires lifting with both hands, but you can eat and cook and wash yourself with one hand.

Anyhow, it's good you're going to go see the doc about it. Hopefully they can give you a realistic idea of what surgery would entail and what the outcome and recovery time is likely to be.

Oh, I can do lots of things with just one hand , but one of the problem I'll have it that I walk with a cane due to my bad back (hence my handle). The right one in worse, because that's the side I walk with (the nerves going to my left leg are massively screwed up from the spinal cord damage), and when that one's done, I'll be wheelchair-bound out of necessity. I can walk very short distances unassisted, but stairs, ramps, and sitting requires me to have help. I live on the second floor, and relocating is not an option at this time. As I said, I'll be talking with the doctor shortly, and making a decision soon. The biggest problem right now is dealing with my back issues, which are getting worse.

I'm still a tough guy, I keep telling myself that, but my goddamn body is letting me down more and more each day.
