He claims facts but doesn't have any to support the initiatives in NC, TX, and PA.

And he skated over the question of why anyone would commit voter fraud when:

(1) It's a felony and;

(2) It's meaningless. One vote doesn't push the dial in an election at all.

Why risk a felony conviction for a single vote?

It is also a felony to walk into a store, take out a can of mace and rob the place. Didn't stop the little wannabe thug from doing it where I work. Now you could ask why risk a felony conviction for under $100 but he did it and is now sitting in jail. Using that logic no one would ever commit a crime.

To your second point, one vote is all anyone has and yet they still think it's worth going out and voting. If someone thought they could get away with voting twice or more, why wouldn't they?

Is part of the argument that acquiring photo ID costs money which some of the harder up voters* might not be able to stretch to?
Are there free forms of photo ID available in the 'States, or do you have to pay to get something that qualifies you to vote?

*(Obvs, they would vote Democrat, like all untermensch, but they should still be allowed to vote even so)

I can't speak for other states but in Michigan you have to have id to collect any kind of assistance. If you apply and don't have id the first thing your case worker does is get you an id card.

To me, it's a disappointment that so many people on this thread talk about people's' responsibilities to the government and not governments' responsibilities towards people. For me, this issue is primarily about how to prevent powerful political interests from being fraudulent. Gawd. The question arises: "when is an inalienable right not an inalienable right?" Well, obviously, when it comes to the right to vote: when someone doesn't have some pissy little bit of official paper or another, as decreed by the government of the day. Pop goes the Constitution, whisked aside by nothing more than red tape.

cloudboy -> RE: NAACP protesting voter ID requires picture ID (2/10/2014 7:09:45 AM)

Why, when there isn't any voting fraud to begin with?

Why make up a costly solution for a problem that doesn't exist?

cloudboy -> RE: NAACP protesting voter ID requires picture ID (2/10/2014 7:12:53 AM)

Voting fraud is not a problem; it is a figment of your imagination. Why would a political party want to change voting requirements to address a problem that does not exist?

Did you know that in the Wis. recall election that Milwaukee had a voter turnout of 120%.
No evidence of fraud there.

The states set voter qualifications.
If you have to provide much more than just a picture ID for the Constitutionally protected right
to own a firearm why not an ID to vote.

Do not believe the crazy shit you read on right wing sites.

And you don't believe the poll workers were convicted of voter fraud in Ohio, one of them voted 8 times,
it was even covered by msnbc.
Anyone who doesn't think there is voter fraud is wearing blinders.

Ever been to Texas?

Or Chicago.
In Texas Lyndon Johnson once had more votes in a district than there were residents.

You repeated a claim that wasn't true. The thing to do is own it and apologize.

And you are ignoring claims that are clearly true
Apologize while I continue research to see if an apology is in order for Wis.

ps the 119% was because people could have same-day voter registration. The numbers suggest that many people are registering at the polls.

You have it wrong...we have a responsibility to each other to have a fair impartial election without fraud. You must understand that a good portion of US citizens would like to see photo ID requirements for voting.

I believe that not just Republicans but a significant number of independents AND Democrats are also for photo ID's.

How much food do you eat?
Photo IDs are required for privileges, not rights. Things we want to have for which we will surrender freedoms. Driving a car or airplane are privileges granted after establishing the competency to not be a danger to others. Credit is the biggie today, a privilege you gain by making a contract with a bank and can exercise at those institutions and some merchants once you satisfy their requirements as to identity (Photo ID!). Voting is a guaranteed right of every free adult.
The issue seems to generate an amazing amount of heat (evidence of underlying class or racial prejudice stoked to agitation, in my opinion) that has No relation to any actual problem or fraud. There just isn't any misrepresented identity voting going on! The massive and current fraud occurs previously entering false names to voter rolls (For which false IDs will, of course, be generated) or deleting qualified voters. Photo IDs to use financial credit privately arranged with private entities are obviously counters to massive dishonesty and theft, hardly subject to Constitutional protection. SNAP/EBT food credit cards don't require photo IDs to my knowledge, just the correct pass code.
The whole campaign is a deceit based on widespread ignorance. In many neighborhoods, particularly 'disadvantaged' ones the Right fears will vote against them, phony picture IDs are easier and faster to obtain than valid ones.

http://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/Dead-and-Still-Voting-177286281.html

25k dead people on voter rolls. In California. Now, that's not to say that there were 25k fraudulent votes. And, that's not even to say that 25k instances of intentional fraud.

http://www.npr.org/2012/02/14/146827471/study-1-8-million-dead-people-still-registered-to-vote

1.8M dead people are still registered to vote.

24M registrations are either invalid or inaccurate.

http://www.freep.com/article/20120516/NEWS15/205160363/State-audit-shows-dead-people-prisoners-cast-1-500-votes

Apparently, there is some fraud happening, no? Does the "ounce of prevention" only apply in certain instances?
