GoddessManko -> RE: Well, I am fucking offended! (2/9/2014 10:22:42 PM)

I am glad all of you know what a "no colors allowed" event is, I do not. I also find it hilarious when people use instances like this to point out people being sensitive to what can be seen as racially insensitive. The death threats (IF they were made) were unnecessary but SO avoidable for sake of those who are not bikers tot MOVE the sign where it is visible at entry but not posted outside as a reminiscent of the 1960's, the only thing missing is TWO letters and it only makes the NOUN PAST TENSE, it doesn't change the context necessarily. Putting the sign indoors could have avoided a lot of confusion, like for instance, then only the bikers who can interpret its meaning easily can see it.
Also, the passive aggressive comments towards "the blacks who voted for Obama" are unnecessary.
And why on earth does he tie into every racial event that takes place in this country?
I'm sure he has more important things to worry about like the Conventional Forces of Europe Treaty.
Honestly, I find these things comedic. :)

Club Colors is the full term, Colors is just short, watch Sturgis Raw on The Travel Channel and the biker bars run people wearing colors out to prevent fights with other cycle clubs. Or you can turn your colors inside out to go in the clubs.

DID I SAY OBAMA???

oppsss noooo sorry YOU jumped to THAT conclusion!

PS. if the sign was not easily visible its possible biker gangs would roll into the parking lot try to enter and scare more timid customers away... don't you think heading off potentially confrontational situations is the better idea

actually NO, colors is a full term, it ALSO refers to gang colors, not just bikers

ElectraGlide -> RE: Well, I am fucking offended! (2/9/2014 10:57:16 PM)

True, street gangs and biker clubs are different, a biker club would never call itself a gang.

ElectraGlide -> RE: Well, I am fucking offended! (2/9/2014 11:05:32 PM)

Do street gangs still wear Colors ? I thought that went out in the 70's with The Warriors movie. It would make them an easy target for the police to spot. I know they might wear a certain color shirt, hat or bandana, I did not realize they wear vest with their insignia's on it. Maybe outside the U.S. ?

EdBowie -> RE: Well, I am fucking offended! (2/10/2014 12:30:37 AM)

It's a household term in the US and has been since at least the 70s.

So, for at least 25 years, the term "colors" has referred to gang colors and insignia, as well as it's more traditional meanings.

No, I'm sure it's not a new term. The real question is, though, how many people know about its use re biker gangs?

EdBowie -> RE: Well, I am fucking offended! (2/10/2014 12:31:48 AM)

What comic book are you getting this stuff from?

Seriously?

People never cease to amaze me on how far they will stretch in order to be offended.

Yeah, they should have some law that everytime someone is,....."Offended" the three nearest lefties have to drop what(ever) they're doing and bring that "Offendee" coffee, tea, coke whatever, and comfort them untill the "Offended Wambulance" gets there to take them to the hospital where they'd have to stay for at least 7 days minimum.
I bet "Obamacare would pay for that!

Definitely not new... it's been around since long before I was born.

Although predominantly used to denote biker gang "colours" in recent years, AFAIK, the term was used well before the 18th century and refered to 'nautical' colours.

For centuries, the term "colours" has always had connotations to do with alliegence; either country or clan/group/gang whether biker related or otherwise (eg; street gangs of the 70's).
In recent(~ish) decades, your group's "colours" were more popular with the advent of the Scout movement in 1908 which is when a popular non-nautical theme adopted the terminology.

So... how the fuck could this person ever confuse "colors" with "coloreds" I really don't know.
Perhaps he should have gone to SpecSavers??? [:D]

It plainly isn't that much of a household term if at least two Americans over the age of 25 on this thread didn't know what it meant.

To all: You know, this is kind of a non-issue, isn't it? The bloke who took the picture got all indignant, either because he didn't understand, misread the card, or made a point of getting on his high horse. Now, I'm developing the sense that certain people on this thread are getting on *their* high horses about how the bloke who took the picture shouldn't be getting on his high horse.

If this whole thing had happened in the UK I'd be drumming my fingers just *waiting* for some tedious git to start bellowing the line 'POLITICAL CORRECTNESS GONE MAD!'. Frankly and in my view, that sort, and the sort of people who get wilfully offended in a 'PC' way, absolutely deserve each other.

By the time my bro pulled out of the Sons of Satan (a small outfit based in London) in the mid eighties many bikers here in the UK had already long since stopped brandishing their colours so loudly. That was true in the UK, anyway. They wanted a quiet life. After all, biker clubs aren't usually made up of the kind of young buck in an urban gang who's always spoiling for a fight, but middle-aged men with burgeoning bellies who'd rather play pool, get drunk and talk about . . . well, bikes, obviously.

And roads. Aging bikers may not be very dangerous (whatever that tit Sonny Barger says), but they can quite easily bore you to death when they get started on blather about shortcuts...

PeonForHer -> RE: Well, I am fucking offended! (2/10/2014 5:14:49 AM)

"Big end bearings". God, if I never hear that phrase again, it'll be too soon. I never found out what they were, and if anyone is foolish enough to tell me here, I'll be dispatching the hitmen.

I think they're like special wheelbarrows for people who've been afflicted with elephantiasis of the scrotum.

Fuck the colors sign, what about the 75 cent burger sign? Now that is noteworthy!

Maybe the fuckwit who invented a complaint to start an internet row was sent by a business competitor who found that sign really offensive?
