You do realize that eating only once a day is unhealthy, right? And just because you vomit doesn't mean whatever calories were in what you ate weren't absorbed by your body.

Regardless of what you allege is your metabolic rate, if all you are eating is ONE servind of yogurt or cottage chees or protein shake A DAY, you would be suffering from malnourishment and be quite ill since the first two have less than 300 calories per serving.

It doesn't matter what your metabolic rate is, the human body requires more than 300 calories a day. Of course, since you claim to burn only 500 a day and also claim that you are consuming less than 300 a day, you would be burning 200 just sitting stil. With exercise, even a slow metabolism is going to burn calories.

Nice try though.

I know I don't get everything up but I get most up. I usually rinse a couple times unless I'm seeing stars really bad. I'm really afraid of passing out while purging now since Master will find me and I don't like to worry him. He knows I'm doing it and everything...and that worries him but I don't want to make him worry more. And I know it's unhealthy and I know it's going to kill me eventually. But that's okay. Better than gaining and dying from being fat. And I'm not at my highest weight right now...have been slowly losing for a long time now. Highest weight was 375 and I'm 339 right now (but that's mostly water weight loss...I had really bad edema at 375) Most people don't realize how little the human body actually needs to survive. Or how long you can actually live with no food at all. As long as I drink lots of water, my kidneys stay kinda happy. My GI track is fucked though and there is no healing that at this point. I suspect that is what will kill me...

I'm going to skip over the debate with doll and return to the OP's question.

Yes, I have degenerative arthritis. It sucks the big time pain wise. It really helps if you keep your joints moving in spite of the pain. Which is hard to do when you're in any sort of acute phase, I know.

I don't take the immune suppressants at this point, that's very much a last resort for me.

Obviously being even a little over weight will over burden your joints.

I manage by first being very careful about how I do things that effect my back and my wrists and thumbs. This means doing any sort of housework or even cooking in stages. I have a splint for my left wrist and I use that if it acts up, other than that I wear wrist braces if I'm using those joints.

At this point I don't have a back brace.

When my joints act up, I use a triad of medication (I'm on tramadol), my tens unit, and a wet-heat heating pad. This will get me through most flares unless I really pull the back. Then I'm on anti-inflammatories as well as more tramadol.

I tend to do worse in the winter since the weather precludes me from taking a daily walk. I've found playing with clay (I make beads) very therapeutic for the wrist and hands if I don't over do it.

Pay very strict attention to what you eat, as I've noticed even minor changes in my diet (too much sugar or carbs) effect me.

This is a long painful path and you really just have to find your way through it. What works for me won't work for you and vice versa.

Best, CP

[I was only burning 500. They told me it's not uncommon to see people burning as little as 100 calories a day.

I actually haven't been keeping much of anything in lately...I usually eat once a day and throw that up. But if I do keep something in it's usually a yogurt or cottage cheese. Or a protein shake.

Your liver, by itself, requires more than 100 kCal a day.

Someone get this chick on the "Secret Eaters" show.

LadyConstanze -> RE: dengenerative arthritis (2/15/2014 6:04:43 AM)

There is an arthritis treatment center not too far away from where I live, and they do recommend exercise in a swimming pool (if you're registered with them, you get a much reduced entrance in the public pool, especially on warm water days and can take part in the water exercises for free), since the water carries most of the weight, people can actually move the joints and keep them flexible. I would assume that such an arrangement isn't all the different across the pond?

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: dengenerative arthritis (2/15/2014 6:11:05 AM)

There are much fewer programs here in the states, depending on where you live. There used to be one at a YWCA near me that was closed a few years ago.

And I agree, hydrotherapy is great for arthritis.

So is PT. I have a whole range of exercises for my back, some I do daily, others only when I have issues. And yes, PT hurts like hell, but you should go and do what they tell you to do at home in terms of exercise.

If you have extreme pain, then you call them and tell them, they know to ratchet back a bit a/o use massage or a tens after your next appointment. PT is all about assessment, slow to no progress, reassessment, and you repeat until you find what does give progress. I've had enough if it to know this.

It took me several years of PT to find the right treatments and exercises for my back. It was incredibly frustrating, but worth it now.

edit to remove my response to the OPs own thread.

angelikaJ -> RE: dengenerative arthritis (2/15/2014 6:27:22 AM)

I have had osteoarthritis in my knees since my 20s.

I should lose weight.

You may want to read up on supplements; some people swear they are helped by glucosamine and or chondroitin.

angelikaJ -> RE: dengenerative arthritis (2/15/2014 6:33:28 AM)

FR LL, I hope you feel better soon.

VideoAdminChi -> RE: dengenerative arthritis (2/15/2014 8:53:50 AM)

Posters who wish to continue the weight loss tangent can start a new thread, or if they want to respond to dollparts, participate in her thread: Natural/OTC ways to treat severe pain?

Thanks angelikaJ!

LafayetteLady -> RE: dengenerative arthritis (2/15/2014 4:34:59 PM)

Chatte, thanks for the info and sharing your situation. Sadly, I'm allergic to tramadol. As well as codiene and morphine, with the latter being new. I also know what LC was saying about thyroid issues messing with how pain killers work, since with most these days, they might as well give me a tic tac for all the good they do. I seem to become tolerant within a couple of days, so nothing really works long term. Although I remember a couple of years ago when I had surgery for kidney stones, they pumped me so full of dilaudid, xanax and fentynol, when I woke up from surgery I was completely pain free for the first time since 2008. My doctor was shocked at how coherent I was for the amount of drugs they gave me. I don't like being on that many drugs, but I still often wish that once every month or so they could do that for 24 hours just to give my body an opportuinity to heal from fighting the pain every day.

I'm currently waiting for the PT people to call me back so we can set a schedule. I would love to do water therapy but don't know if my insurance would cover it. I live right on a lake and was hoping I would be able to swim in the warm weather, but my cove is pretty grross with vegetation, so all I get is the peaace of living on the aterer.

I do try to eat healthy and do pretty good the first half of the month. By the second half, the budget is shot and I'm really having to scrounge to come up wih fresh veggies.

LadyConstanze -> RE: dengenerative arthritis (2/15/2014 5:02:14 PM)

LL, don't know if you have a freezer, if you can buy veg in bulk and seasonal it might be cheaper, then freeze it in.

I found the site I mentioned earlier, don't know if it will help you, but it can't harm to have a look around there, it's run by Dr. Carnell (sp) who is quite famous for his research

Healthcare providers are well aware of insurance issues and treatments being cost-prohibitive for a lot of people. Many would be willing to work with you by having just one session with you for a "Home Exercise Program". They'll show you the exercises they want you to do in the water and then you can go to whatever pool or lake you want and do the exercises on your own. And then you can have a follow-up visit to monitor your progress once a month or so.

They might even be able to include showing you the water exercises during your regular appointment that the insurance does cover.

LafayetteLady -> RE: dengenerative arthritis (2/16/2014 5:23:59 PM)

It is possible that water therapy is possible. I just don't know yet. I will have to talk with the PT people and my doctor at the follow up. It would have been nice to use my lake, but it really isn't a good place to swim off my dock. Actually pretty gross, lol.

Just have to work with what was ordered now and figure out the rest later.
