Both kohlrabi as well as celeriac are very common veggies in Germany, and I grew up with them. Celeriac is one of the essential soup veggies around here. Almost every soup has a triad of celeriac, carrots, and leeks. Chicken soup, beef soup, veggie soup, whatever. All has celeriac. Especially delicious is a celeriac and potatoe soup, using 50/50 of both. Kohlrabi is great raw as a snack vegetable. The traditional version is sliced and steamed, served with a bit of butter or a bechamel sauce. Look for the smaller bulbs of kohlrabi, they are more tender and have less "wooden" fibres.
