Actually, I always recommend chalk (on the whip) and a leather puff, the kind of things our parents or grandparents had to put their feet up when watching TV, the chalk leaves good marks and you can see how accurate you are when you're practising, also "size isn't everything" the longer the whip the harder to control and also to swing, so unless your house has very high ceilings and is mostly empty, a bit less can be much more.
