I'm with Athena, a newbie might just try to find something of their interest and post on it, it's easy to miss how old a thread is...

Newbies are possibly just trying to fit in and might be a bit shy starting new threads themselves, it's seriously not the worst thing that can happen

I could see banning threads that are years old, but I don't see what's so bad about a thread that's just been sitting idle for a few months. It's not always about starting the new thread, sometimes regulars who may have taken a break from posting, or who just missed the thread the first time around might have something good to contribute to the no-so-old existing thread.

In the long run, I don't care either way. It doesn't bother me to see something old resurrected, I just move on to the next one.

Try not logging in with your password and having a look at the forums. There is no clear cut way to tell if a thread is active or not and many don't pay attention to the small type showing the date a post was made. I know when I was new to the site I rode rampant through all the threads with interesting topic headers and adding comments where I thought I had something to add.

Perhaps the coding could add a different typeface for say threads over 90 days old. The header going grey instead of normal black would work. I first thought vile neon green to show threads moldering in their graves but that might just scream "click me" to a newbie.

FR
I voted against reviving necro threads and I remain against it. I knew it was just going to allow mischief makers to dig up obscure threads all over the board leading to frustration and dead ends.

I doubt seriously that any of these grave diggers are new posters.

Reviving years old threads only gives the illusion of activity.
Fresh content is what drives people to sites and keeps them coming back.
Digging up bones is not the answer.

I get all excited thinking it's a new thread and it's from 1998.
Grrrrr
