ChasingMyTale -> Corsets For Guys (3/15/2014 3:33:58 AM)

So I want a corset. Well a few really. I want some that I can wear out and about on their own, but more than anything I want 1 that is like a vesty type thing. Something that will help push in the bit of belly I have and be allowed at my call center job.

I have looked around and most places only sell them for women, so the question I have is, are mens corsets and womens corsets both useable for men? Do men need to have specially made and designed corsets? And where can I find some at reasonable prices for someone who makes close to minimum wage? Now Im not interested if they are not functional, I want corsets that actually restrict the form and all the normal stuff real boned corsets do, I want low cost but I don't want to sacrifice function too much.

So any suggestions would be awesome.

Yes you need a special corset. Male shapes are very different than female shapes, and you will not have a comfortable fit on a female corset. That said, you don't have to have them specially made, seeing that there are various corsetieres who have ready made corsets for men.

You cannot find a functions sturdy restrictive lacing corset for a budget price. They just don't exist, because they're not possible to make, because of how much labor goes into making a decent corset.
Anything you can find at budget pricing won't work well for day to day restrictive lacing wear. Expect to spend at least $350 on a tight lacing corset if you find sales, but more realistic is probably around $500-$600.

That being said, there are a number of corsetieres who do ready-to-wear functional corsets at reasonable prices. Non of these will get the tight lacing results of a proper corset, but for what you're looking for, and your budget, I think you'll find them more than acceptable.

What would you suggest if I was just had a bit of a gut but wanted to get a feminine or androgynous body shape? I also want something that looks okay over a button up.

A custom made corset. Probably a short hipped under bust, but discuss that with your personal corsetiere.

Anything but a custom made one will give you less than ideal results to target specific issues like a beer gut... but we're talking about a starting price of about $500 then...

Okay, thank you :)

Marvelous Mayhem is pretty reasonable, and they make some corsets for men. Their website isn't a very thorough representation of what they can do, so drop them a line and tell them what you want. They will likely be more than happy to work with you. I have a couple off the rack corsets from them, and they are very nice for the price, and are hefty enough to be used for tightlacing if that's what you're into. (I'm not. My guts object.)

They're super nice guys, I highly recommend them.
