The ex liked it made with dried beef. I think it was something his father picked up a taste for during WWII when it was made with chipped beef, not ground.

Personally, I'm not much for gravy. It's used to moisten something that's too dry to eat plain.

The Man believes in the supremacy of breakfast sausages and pancakes or waffles, not eggs.

Etymology

The Romans apparently created a meat pattie which they used to sell with bread via street vendors. Recipes can be located online, I'm sure. I'll consult a friend of mine that's an historian but that won't be until tomorrow at the earliest. While Wiki is a great resource for information, it is submitted to by a great many laypersons. If I'm wrong I have no problem with that, I'd like to know with authority one way or the other just as a matter of historical significance and not b/c I want to be right.

I think i would prefer ground beef 'dry' with all the spices added. If it's with proper gravy and not a white sauce then I'd want bread to sop up all that gravy. The closest I've had insofar as having eggs with ground beef is when I made a Bobotie pie which, I believe, is South African. The egg topping made me very sick just b/c of the texture, I think!

I must admit, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if the Romans or even some other earlier culture "invented" a ground-meat patty slapped between lumps of unleven bread.

But a (legit) white sauce labelled as "gravy"?? Uh-uh. Not in a zillion years.

So if those suvverners were served a proper Béchamel sauce, would they risk life and limb by insulting the chef and calling it 'gravy'??

Besides, if I am running the planet, that kinda gives me the power to judge who are and are not great artists, now with the exception of Cash (my parents had every freaking record he ever put out, and I heard him so much that I liken it to torture.)

No, I said that the UK had imported them. There had to be some demand or market research to indicate that these establishments would be profitable. McDonald's, burger king, taco bell, wendy's, taco bueno, or even long john silvers is a last resort. It is nothing more than fast, hot and palatable junk food. Most of the hamburger joints reheat their burgers in microwaves, or if not that, leave the damn things under warming lights for 15 minutes. The only way to get a fresh meal at those places is to make a special order.

As for taco bell, on one hand you can call it comfort food, on the other, heart attack fuel. I can make leaner, healthier tacos and similar items at home.

Do not get Me wrong. I actually like Aerosmith. With that said, even at 52, I much prefer hard shit... Pantera, Bio-Hazard, Suicidal tendencies, Onyx, Metallica, Korn. And some not so hard shit, but a little obscure for most like Frank Zappa. Grew up on the Beatles and Led Zeppelin. Just saying.
