I wasn't totally sure where to put this, but it seems like it fits best here.

I am wondering what your experiences with nipple piercings have been...

I am planning on getting one of mine done at some point, but I am just worried about being able to play with them (I sometimes see them being tugged on and marvel at how they do not rip out). I like my nipples to be pulled on quite a bit, but I just worry this would be a no-no with piercings

Are there any "don'ts" when it comes to playing with them (except, obviously let them heal properly)? About how long was it before they were totally fine to be played with roughly? Any other thoughts about nipple piercings?

I would talk to a piercer about that.
I haven't had mine done, but depending whether you get a bar or a ring I know that changes the healing. Rings from what I have seen take longer to heal as more chances of getting knocked.
Also, like any piercing, the nipple would become more sensitive at a guess, It would change how much pulling you needed to get the same sensation.
not sure if you have or havent had kids or want them but that is one thing to think about regarding breastfeeding. If you have then no issues, if you're going to, they need to be careful not to hit a duct just in behind the nipple.

I got my nipples done only 2-3 months ago and I can play very rough. Even clamps, pulling, biting, etc. Obviously this depends on your healing process so judge by your other piercings. I've had many ears and a nose before and it was a breeze so I wasn't worried. You know your body better than any piercer, don't psych yourself out.
Until you're totally healed (no blood, scabs, etc) avoid oral contact AND sexual contact.
It's best to stick with bars, though, honestly.
Rings move too much to heal quickly and are very painful - I had them in for a while.
Basically, stay clean, and listen to your body. If it hurts, stop, even if they "should" be healed. If they aren't hurt, go nuts.
Good luck, you'll love them.

Also: Piercings do NOT affect the ability to breastfeed.

I can't help thinking, did anyone ask the babies how they felt about breastfeeding around a piercing? lol

Not criticizing, I'm not pierced and never will be, so I'm totally ignorant of what it's like. Just curious.....do you remove the stuff to nurse the baby or just leave it in? I was more the "earth mother" type, and I did breastfeed my babies. I'm just having a hard time imagining it, lol.

My (now ex) had hers done and even though she went to a professional, after 6 months she ended up having to take her piercings out.
She tried bars and rings but neither worked for her.
Last I heard from her (now ex) 2nd husband, her nips have absolutely no feelings in them at all these days although they were very sensitive when I knew her.

I guess it's very much down to the individual.

Mine aren't pierced so take my comments with a pinch of salt.

You should take them out to nurse. The hard metal can affect the latch (and we know how painful a bad latch is) and in some cases hurt the baby's gums/tongue/soft palate. There's also a risk of choking if the jewelry works loose - rare but obviously very serious. I would guess you need to be very careful about cleaning the area too.

General consensus is that it shouldn't affect milk flow or production, but of course there's always a risk of infection and/or scarring when the piercing is first healing which could potentially cause problems down the line. Again, small risk but something to consider.

My good friend is pierced and breastfed two kids for about 18 months each with no issues, I think she opted to remove the jewelry completely during the periods she was lactating, though.

Speaking for myself, my nipples were probably triple their normal size while I was nursing, so the thought of having even a well-healed piercing there sounds very uncomfortable to me.

I had my nipple piercings done by the best. Just like all piercings, it is an open wound. It takes 9 months minimum to heal (mine took 2 years) and will seem to get better and worse during different parts of your cycle. They will heal faster with the right aftercare. 2x a day do a sea salt soak and wash with antibacterial soap and water then apply an oil like emu oil to the piercing.

No... you cant play with them when they are fresh. Sensation is heightened when the piercings are fresh but touching them is asking for an infection. Don't touch your body within 2 hand widths of a healing piercing. you're not supposed to wear anything that rubs or tugs on them either during the healing process.

Once healed, you can be as rough as you like... they're not going to rip out unless the piercing is shallow or migrating or youre using a smaller guage. I think mine actually enter and exit through the areola rather than the nipple itself. If you plan on being really rough with them, talk to a professional that's known to be very good at what they do, that's also kink friendly, they may suggest a particular placement and/or a larger guage.

Theres different types of nipple rings you might be interested in... of course horizontal most people wear rings through, geometric vertical and "human" vertical (some people call it diagonal). The human vertical follows your specific vertical lines which do not go perfectly straight up and down, theres a little bit of a slant. That's the type I got and everyone says they look like they belong there... cant really wear loops or rings in them though.

Its kind of fun to just flick the jewelry, not touching the nipple or use the jewelry to twist. tehehe... Or even tying a string to both piercings and sending the middle of that string through a genital piercing!

ETA... Oh, if you play with them early (I bet almost everybody if not all start playing with them "too early") and end up with signs of infection starting, whatever you do, do not take the jewelry out. If you get an infection the jewelry will allow the infection to drain. My master at the time put his mouth on mine in the first week and I started showing signs of infection but it was easy to deal with, with sea salt soaks and soap.. cleared up in just a few days.
