Alright, how many can remember going to see the following at drive ins back in the day?

These were all grade b (or worse) low budget movies made in a matter of weeks, sometimes days, and were the primary fair for many Drive ins.

Of course, if you actually went to watch the movie, you were there for the wrong reasons.

GreedyTop -> RE: Drive in Movie memories (4/16/2014 10:02:48 PM)

I didn't see any of those, but I *did* see Food of the Gods (doubled with Journey to the Center of the Earth, I think it was...)

ForgetToRemember -> RE: Drive in Movie memories (4/16/2014 10:25:10 PM)

I think the last movie I seen at the drive-in was Van Helsing. I don't really remember that movie though because me and my girlfriend at the time got distracted...I'm pretty sure the drive-in was always about couples or dates getting a little personal, but that could be my own bias.

When I was in high school, there was a drive in theater about 2 blocks from my house... probably the last one in Montgomery County, Maryland. Couldn't drive yet, but an AM radio and a couple of friend sitting outside the chain link fence around it made for quite a few memorable weekend nights.

Last film I remember seeing there was Good Guys Wear Black.... Chuck....

Last time I went to the local drive-in was back in high school when a bunch of friends went to see an all-nighter of "Friday the 13th" movies that ran from 8:00pm to 6:00am.

I think I fell asleep during the third movie.....

You have never been to a drive in theater?

You have missed out on a rite of passage for teens.

Of course, all those teens who had a two seater were kinda up a creek, but those of us who had cars with a back seat had it made.

Now I had a 66 charger, the back seats folded down and the divider between the trunk and passenger seats folded down and you had a nice space about the size of a full sized bed.

So, the routine was pick up your date, go to the drive in (didnt matter what was showing, you werent there to watch the movie) find a spot, climb in the back seat and fog the windows.

I went to the drive in numerous times as a child (under12) Once as a teen-ager and once last year with my young nephews. I realized last year why I don't like Drive-In's. Dirty, Hot, Bathroom is too far away...UGH. That's not going to stop me from taking the kids this year, at least once but UGH for me as an adult.

igor2003 -> RE: Drive in Movie memories (4/18/2014 9:16:28 AM)

I don't remember what was showing the last time I went to a drive-in theater...but I do remember who I went with!

In grade school I had one pretty good friend that was a girl. Half way through the sixth grade my folks moved to another town. Six years later, after high school, I and a friend went to a local swimming hole outside of the original town. There were two girls there, looking hot as hell in their bikinis. My friend and I were mostly just minding our own business, when I heard the two girls talking, and though she was all grown up now I still recognized her voice...my grade school friend! We got to talking, and the four of us decided to go to the drive-in that night. And like I said, I don't remember anything at all about the movie.

Of the movies listed in the poll the only one I've seen is Escape From New York, but I didn't see it at the drive-in.

When I was really young my cousin, who was quite a bit older than me, worked at the drive-in. I remember a number of times my folks would pack up the family and go see a movie. We'd pull up to the ticket booth, my dad would hand my cousin a five dollar bill, she'd hand back 5 ones, and in we'd go!

And, do you remember those mosquito repellant coils that you would light to keep the mosquitoes away while watching the movie? I still remember the smell of those.

smileforme50 -> RE: Drive in Movie memories (4/18/2014 9:48:35 AM)

When was really little, my mom (mother of 4) and my 2 aunts (also each a mother of 4) would pile my siblings and me and my 8 other cousins into my aunt's HUGE station wagon (before seat belts were the law!)

3 grown women in the front seat...and 12 kids piled into the back seat and "bed" of the station wagon.....all the kids already in our pajamas. Off to see some Disney movie....Mary Poppins, Bedknobs and Broomsticks.....

Spent about 10% of the time actually watching the movie....the other 90% running around the playground (in our pajamas!), trying to get our moms to buy us some junk food at the concession stand....or take us to the bathroom....

anniezz338 -> RE: Drive in Movie memories (4/18/2014 3:28:37 PM)

I worked at a drive-in once and I remember they had an adult film on after the regular shows. We stayed open until after it started. When my mom found out, she made us quit.

I did not see the above movies in the drive-in but I remember very well seeing Carrie. I almost jumped out of my skin when that hand shot up at the end.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Drive in Movie memories (4/19/2014 10:37:31 PM)

We still have a drive-in in my town.

windchymes -> RE: Drive in Movie memories (4/20/2014 6:17:35 AM)

There are two near me, about 15 or 20 miles in different directions. The one south of here has been family-owned for decades. They still use the old projector because they can't afford updating to the digital system. They've had fund raisers and entered a contest but didn't win it, unfortunately. I really hope they get the money, it's really a great family night out. I used to take my kids, we saw Cable Guy and The Mask as a double header one summer. You can spread a blanket on the ground and light a few citronella candles to ward off the mosquitoes, fun times. Cheap, too, back then it was $7 for the three of us. Now I think you could do it for $10, which is still super cheap.

DesFIP -> RE: Drive in Movie memories (4/26/2014 4:17:13 PM)

I went to one my sophomore year of college. Because they don't have drive ins in New York City. There are a couple across the river from here though and I know my son and his girlfriend went to one last summer.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Drive in Movie memories (4/27/2014 1:07:15 PM)

This town had it, showing old Elvis movies until it was brought out...now there are trailer (animal) shops and a fortune teller. Also a lot of road construction.

I think Tyler TX has one, mainly porn. New Johnsonville, TN has one. The last movie I really saw was "Villian" with Ann Margaret and the Arnold...

tropicalspice -> RE: Drive in Movie memories (4/29/2014 9:40:58 AM)

I remember going to see Summer Place...we actually watched all the good parts!

Sexyladydee -> RE: Drive in Movie memories (4/30/2014 10:21:56 AM)

I vividly remember seeing the title "Chainsaw Massacre" as we drove through the gate of the drive-in. But it was the night my oldest daughter was conceived so thank goodness I don't remember the movie. I hate scary movies. But I do enjoy scary scenarios. Go figure.

I'm not selfish, just stubborn and usually right.
