OK people...if I can't have the Ferrari, I'll take my first car back - an ancient faded red 1964 Volvo B544. I only had her a year before more of her parts "died" than I could afford to fix.

Every so often I see one on the road, and the memories flood back. Nothing beats the feeling of freedom you get from your first car.

I love how this thread turned to cars everyone owned and loved, rather than those they might dream of owning.

but if anyone wants to buy me a Ferrari, I won't say no

she still "runs" thou,can start her up and she burns gas,just doesn't go lol

Status: offline 		I had a 1980 Silverado.

When the tranny died (admittedly because I asked WAY more than it was rated for) a few months after I had moved from CA to GA and I couldn't afford to replace it...

I cried so hard that the guy at the salvage yard gave me a big hug and assured me that he would ONLY sell it as a working vehicle (because she WAS! aside from the trans), and only to someone who he knew would care for her.

Status: offline 		the car I first learned to drive was an old 70 something Silverado. Had horrible steering(a straight work out to make a 90 degree turn),she'd skid out and loose all traction if there was a hint of sand on asphalt,the brakes were more of a suggestion then a commanding force of deceleration and the dash was completely torn out...having said that,I loved that truck,nothing could stop her,well,other then forgetting to top her up(no gas gauge,but she was amazingly capable of running off fumes),and when people decided to cut me off and drive slower then my already lethargic pace,I would just smile thinking"well,I'll try to slow down for your sake,but it's not going to be my teeth they scrape off the bumper"

Status: offline 		speaking of old cars with horrible steering,the car I've owned and least liked was a four hundred dolla running wreck from the local scrap yard.An 88 corolla, the lil thing was a tiny shoe box of a car that handled just like the huge silverado I learned to drive,but without the ton of extra steal round you for protection and power...the thing was gutless as fuck,I was afraid of going up steep hills for fear it would die half way and roll backwards,and it had the habit of dieing at intersections,and not while stopped either.It would die just as you entered the intersection after stoping....the seat belts would argue with you whether you were trying to buckle or unbuckle them,and even thou it was gutless and tiny shoe box,you could stand on the brakes and it might notice your request to decelerate at some future date.The thing was a complete death trap,but still fun to mob on shitty back roads.Didn't have to worry bout getting it stuck cause it was light nuff to push and I didn't care if I killed it cause it was such a piece of shit anyway.I later found out they made a four wheel drive version of it,and I can see why,it took dirt"roads"like a champ.


and like all old Toyotas I've driven,it had the fun little trick where you could take the key out of the ignition and it would still run....in fact the corolla would start if you used anything "key" like,including pen caps and scissors,and after killing the engine,the thing would rock,shake and gurgle for several moments,as if it wanted to keep going whether you wanted it to or not.

Status: offline 		Classic cars… damn that must make me a classic too… My first car was a 1966 GTO.. It was one of the last factory racing engines you could buy… they were legal then.

It was a tri power setting on a high rise manifold 389 cu in
All chromed with close ratio trans 411 gears and a positraction rear end.

It would do 0 to 60 in 4.1 seconds with street tires.

It got 5 miles to the gallon…lol.. But it would , at the time beat any street car on the road in a drag.

Status: offline 		I've had a few vehicles myself that I liked a lot.My first was a 1950 Ford business coupe I saved from the crusher,she ended up a midnight metalflake blue with a white vinyl interior. My first new car was a bright yellow 1975 Formula 350 Firebird which I traded in on a 1978 Chevy Big Ten 454 pickup,seamist green/holly green. But I missed having a car in November of '77 so I went asking around and found a real classic[in my eyes anyway]... a Rallye red 1970 440 6 barrel Plymouth Cuda,3:54 Dana,reverse shift pattern auto which I owned from 1977 until 2003...I still kick myself for selling but I was offered what I thought was a stupidly high price and all those dead presidents caught my attention. Now I own a 1985 Chevy 4x4 454 I use rarely to play in the mud with and in the shed is an S-15 1985 GMC Jimmy waiting on a 454 transplant...if I can ever get finished [or decide to sell] the 1948 Willys Jeepster I saved from the scrap yard that already has a small block Chevy in it. While I don't have a actual pic of my old Cuda loaded into my computer[got lots of pics though],I managed to find one the right color...the only differences is mine had chrome bumpers and was a 440 6 barrel.I've owned lots of other vehicles[including Z28's and Trans Am's] but by far this was the one I liked the most.

Status: offline 		We owned a 63 Chevy Impala station wagon for 25 years. Spent 6 years restoring it. Don't have much time to work on it if you live in the Pacific Northwest and don't have a garage. Most of the work was done in July and August as they are the driest months there. When husband passed away I gave it to our son. When our son needed money he sold it to someone in California. So if anyone knows of someone who owns a 63, blue on blue station wagon in CA, let me know. I'd love to see it again.

Art Arfons was very similar. He not only held the LSR (land speed record) for a while with a car of his own design and construction but actually tore down and built a gas turbine powered 'tractor' puller and kicked ass. His opponents actually said he was sand bagging and could have kicked everybody's ass...anytime he wanted.

Roth et al were custom artists making classic cars look...customized.

ANY Corvette
ANY Hemi
ANY Shelby Mustang
Almost all 60's Camaros and Mustangs.
Loved the short 66-67 Chevy II Nova SS fast back (with the original 370 hp, solid lifter small block LT-1)...screamed.
ANY GTO especially 65-67
Any Henry J (Kaiser)

This list goes on. Had a few too. Between me and my brother ours in total, would be worth close to 1/2 a million at auction today.

The best, rarest car was when working for a drug store and we actually delivered prescriptions, was a 57 Chevy panel delivery.
