We were talking about the fact that the freq of a smart gun can be jammed they have all the possibilities of problems that other guns do plus.

No that was one of your unsubstantiated fears. You know fuck all about this gun and yet you are throwing all this "what if" bullshit in. Until you have some concrete evidence why are you running your mouth?

Think what a thunderstorm can do to an electronic
signal.

What the fuck can a thunderstorm do to an eletronic signal? Not a motherfucking thing...it cant start it and it cannot stop it. Radios, telephones, radar, aircraft all work in thunderstorms.
If a lightning bolt lands close enough to interrupt the signal from the rfid wrist band it may be that you have more pressing issues than a malfucntion.

The possibility of something like a broken firing pin (which has happened to me once in 55 years of shooting) is why I carry a backup.

OmgBy your own admission you are an old fat guy with no assets yet you are so in fear that you have attack dogs to protect you and carry two guns???What the fuck are you afraid they are going to take from you.?

Anything that relies on electronics or electrical connection can be disabled by an EMF pulse of sufficient strength. (EMF => Elecrtomotive Force)

Sufficient being the operant word here.

It is very easy to disrupt RFID circuitry with EMF. It often occurs in industrial environments with things like welding machines. A RFID reader just flat does not work within about ten feet of a welder striking an arc.

Make a note to self not to use the rfid gun when within 10' of a lightning strike

Thunderstorms commonly disrupt electronics with the EMF of lightning strikes. A strike within a few miles will cause a reset of internet routers and temporarily stop things like cable channels or internet connections.

The reset feature takes how many micro seconds to reset?

A close strike can destroy televisions, radios, and computers just from the EMF.

A close strike can fuck up ones whole day.

And EMF bomb is very easy to make and can be used to take out all electronics in a radius of the center of the pulse.

Make another note to self...do not use electric gun while under attack from emf bomb

And I would be interested in seeing if the circuitry used in a smart gun is hardened enough to not be taken out by something as mundane as a cellphone jammer.

This all seems like solutions in search of a problem. Have you read the specs on this piece of shit or are you talking out of your ass like bama. Once again no one is forcing you to buy a two thousand dollar electric .22. You are one hundred percent ignorant of the electronic circutry in the gun yet we have all of these fucking "what ifs". Contact the manufacturer he is not in hibernation. Ask them these moronic questions...why post them here? No one here fucking knows. If you are serious about this quest for knowledge contact the manufacturer.

This is all basic high school level science.

Are you of the opinion that you are the only one who has studied basic high school science?

No, but that was KDsubs early suggestion, and NJ will require it as soon as they go on the market.

When that is a law then you can snivel about it. It is not the law so what are you whining about?

If you want one get one, that doesn't mean I have to like them.
Why would you think I would want a $2000 .22 pistol?

NJ passed the law in 2004.

So fucking what???you live in alabama!

Read the dang gone law!!! It is to be tested by an independent consultant... Not the NRA and Not the Coalition to stop gun violence. You are making a fool of yourself by not reading it... Forget CNN forget Fox.

Not only this but under the law the weapon has to be mass produced production model and pass an independent evaluation assuring it is as dependable as a weapon not equipped... damn what else do you want?

I read the thing.
It still makes it mandatory which is the biggest problem I have had with the whole thing.
Dependable is subjective.
The Attorney General is permitted, not required, to consult independent sources.
Car makers tell us they are all safe, you trust gun makers less, but this takes their word for it that these are dependable. If they don't the state will charge them to do their own testing.
If the guns are so good, and affordable why do they have to force them on the market?
Some of these systems are just stupid. One great example is the one where they measure the size and pressure of your hand. Weight change either way will affect hand size and anyone should be able to see that the pressure will change in a crises situation.

The electronics don't bother me much, as long as they're properly hardened and sealed against moisture. But both components of the system rely on batteries, and that's a little troubling. I take pretty good care not to let my cell-phone battery run down, but I can't say it's never happened.

The other thing is, in order not to compromise the availability of the weapon in an emergency, both components would have to be stored within reach of each other, and kids are notorious for finding things. An obvious solution is a fast-open gun safe, but if you have one then the system is superfluous.

As a practical matter, I just don't see it being all it's cracked up to be. And if their first release is a .22, then the mandate in NJ is going to force everyone to abandon an adequate self-defense weapon for a fucking balloon popper.

On this I am not so much concerned with the internal as with the transmission of the signal, it can't be a strong signal or it is self defeating. As you say a gun safe is more secure against accidents and if you have it you don't need this.

I can't help it but the electronics would bother me I would go research the technology a little more but I don't care. I don't want it on my gun. What mechanical function do the electronics disable ? Does it block the firing pin ? Would it be similar to the transfer bar on a revolver ? I still don't want it.

That's a very good question. I hadn't even gotten that far in my thinking.

First this bill only applies to the sales in the state not possession. So you can keep and use the gun you have now if you like.

Second this bill only applies to handguns so your rifle or shot gun can be easily reached and used for home protection.

You would not need this weapon for rapid defense in the home... use your old handgun... or your shotgun... or whatever... or heaven forbid...call the police.

There would be no problem outside of the home for defense with this system.

Again... I am not saying this particular system is the answer... There are others and eventually this will come... you do realize this don't you?

There is no stopping technology... not even the Gods of Guns the NRA will not be able to stop personalized handguns.

I do get frustrated I'll admit Kirata... When reasonable ideas come along to reduce child deaths and to separate the mentally ill from weapons the NRA, and it seems many of its member, are fanatical in their opposition without good reason.

I used to be a member as well...I am a gun owner... I want to keep them just as everyone else.. but I also want our children protected. If that means a little added expense or inconvenience so be it.

If I had a say in the NRA's leadership I would be spearheading the production of child safe weapons... I would be demanding federal and state legislatures pass strong screening and training for gun ownership.

There would be little opposition to guns with that type of strong leadership... Instead look what we have... a divided nation... the insane with guns killing it seems most every day.

If changes are not made I truly believe in the near future the public’s patients with gun owners will shift and we may all loose our weapons or freedom to use them.

And all I am saying is if they are coming and are going to be so great let them compete for their place
in the market. This may be alien to you but they will be much better if they have to convince the consumer to buy them that to convince anti gun politicians to mandate them.

That was the centerpiece of my problem with this.
Radio wave get screwed up.
Finger prints can change. For example when in college my finger got
caught in a hedge trimmer putting a scar across my finger print.
Finger prints don't show through gloves.
The ones based on hand size and pressure ignore the fact that pressure will vary
greatly depending on the situation and that even a 10 lb weight change or a change in muscle mass
can alter the size of the hand.
If as many on here have claimed kids can figure out gun safe codes or "steal" the keys how much easier to "steal" a watch or ring.
Teaching gun safety and handling would be much harder.
Gun sharing would be difficult.
I think procedures insure safety better than gadgets.
It is something else to go wrong.
For the near future it represents an astronomical increase in price and will for a very long time.
But first and foremost I object to it being mandatory.
If it becomes dependable and reasonably priced people won't have to be forced to use them.
Make them perfect them just don't force them on people.

The only electronic gun I'm interested in is called a "phaser". And only because it comes with that nifty "stun" feature.

Having a scar on your finger print does not change your finger print.
