Seeking challenges

Which is more important having many friends you are somewhat close with? Or one friend you can share anything with?

One friend with whom you can share anything

Getting a lot of praise for something you accomplished, or a deep feeling of personal satisfaction for something you accomplished?

The personal satisfaction

Which is more important, following orders (and keeping your job) or following your ethics (and possibly getting fired)?

Hmmm, that's a tough one. Usually, I do what I have to do to keep my job. However, if placed in that situation, I would immediately seek another job. If it were an extreme situation, I'd refuse the order and just resign.

Offer advice when it is not asked for, or let the person learn from his or her own mistakes?

Offer advice when it is not asked for but only if it seems important to hear right then. Usually, I'm asked.

Collect experiences or material belongings?

Cooperation. Unless it's a sport, I only compete with myself, and even in sports, competing with my own last personal best is at the core of it all. To compete with others is an unproductive distraction and it diffuses what could otherwise be, focused energy, IMO.

Facts or Truth?

Doing the right things

lying to save someone's feelings or telling them & destroying their happiness in ignorance?

It depends on the gravity of the situation. For example, if I don't like a friend's new haircut, and she asks me what I think, I might tell a white lie to spare her feelings. If, on the other hand she is madly in love with a guy, not seeing red flags, and asks if she should move in with him, I would tell her the truth. The second situation could ruin her life.

Appreciating what you have, or striving for more?

I may be in the minority but I have to go with the former. I frequently say a little prayer that goes: "God, if I can't have what I want, please let me want what I have?"

PBM: telling the complete truth or not telling a lie?

Again, for me it depends on the gravity of the situation. If withholding the complete truth could harm a person, I'd feel compelled to tell them the complete truth. Otherwise I might just say as little as possible without lying, if the complete truth would make them uncomfortable.

At first, this seemed like a tough one, but it really is a no-brainer.

My intuition comes from years of acquiring and processing facts. Gimme that intuition!

PBM: Anarchy or Totalitarianism?

While not ideal, I'd choose totalitarianism over anarchy.

If you could afford to do only one: Save for your own retirement, or finance your child's education?

Children's education... but I'd make sure a part of that education was knowing that they are responsible for covering my retirement! LOL (should I not have it also covered by then)
