Worldtravelerxo -> Sun Burn Remedies? Help! (6/2/2014 5:30:51 AM)

I never burn, I have Mediterranean skin and I'm usually lucky.. Well not thinking areas that don't see the sun are way more sensitive, when on the boat and having privacy my friend and I went bare and long story short.... Sunburned boobs. So much pain, aloe isn't helping, I've taken Tylenol (I have an allergy to NSAIDs so I can't take anything else over the counter) too. I've also tried cold compresses. Any advice will be so appreciated! If you can fix me I will seriously send you cookies or something. Not being able to wear a bra when you're ummm well endowed isn't really an option help!

Apple cider vinegar might help. Or you can peel then mash a cucumber and spread it on the burn. That works great.

Forget all the after-sun remedies.
We always tend to burn a lot and we always use Sudocrem for sunburn.
It works well, it's soothing and stops that irritating need to scratch it [:)]
And the Zinc in it helps the skin to heal too.
Best of all.... it's not that expensive and often cheaper than after-sun products.

Okay I have cucumbers and apple cider vinegar. I've also heard of making an oatmeal compress.. I will try that too. Ugh.. I'm going to see if CVS carries that sudocrem. Thanks!

I suggest going to your local drug store and hitting the first aide section.
Don't buy the stuff for sunburns.
Look for the stuff in the burn section that does not contain anesthetics like benzocaine or lidocaine.

Cool, wet compresses whenever you can, as often as you can. Keep the skin hydrated with unscented lotions. If it is very painful, I've always had luck with Sarna lotion. It's supposed to be for anti-itch, but it is very cooling.

Thank you everyone, I'm off to cvs to get some more remedies to try.

Nipple clamps should be worth a try. [:)]

I'm with fluff on this one. This is exactly what I was taught in nursing school and also what all the pharmacists I've worked with have recommended. But you have to remember to use COOL not cold compresses and get medical attention if it blisters and the blisters break.

Soak black tea bags in warm water until the water is almost black, then take a washcloth and apply to the sunburn.

Aloe vera will significantly reduce your discomfort. I go to Jamaica several times a year and the Jamaican’s always use Aloe to treat sunburn. The gels and creams you can buy at CVS or other drugstores only contain a small amount of Aloe. Go to a store that sells plants, such as a greenhouse, a nursery, a home improvement store such as Home Depot or Lowe’s. Stores like Wal-Mart and Kmart also often have them have them. There are over 500 species of flowering succulent plants in the Aloe genus. Make sure you get Aloe vera. Break open a leaf , squeeze out the viscous fluid and apply it to the sunburned skin. If you cool the leaf in your refrigerator for about an hour before applying the Aloe that will further reduce your pain. You can wrap the leaf in a damp paper towel and it will last several days.

Make sure you stay hydrated. Dry mouth, thirst, reduced urination, dizziness, and fatigue are all signs of dehydration. Drink plenty of water and other fluids such as fruit juices so that you don't become dehydrated. Stay away from wine or other drinks containing alcohol, which will dehydrate you.

Since you’re allergic to NSAIDs take aspirin or Tylenol if you can tolerate either medication.

If you develop a fever of 102 degrees or higher, experience chills or severe pain, or if the sunburned skin develops blisters see your doctor as soon as possible.

Sunburns are basically 1st degree (red skin) or 2nd degree (blistering) burns. Count on experiencing discomfort for one to two weeks no matter what you do to treat your sunburn because the damage to your skin is done and your body needs time to heal and get rid of the dead layer of skin. However, the pain should only last a couple of days. Also, no matter what you use to treat your sunburn try applying a small amount to an area of normal skin first. If you’re allergic to whatever you apply to mitigate the pain, and you experience a reaction, your level of discomfort will increase significantly.

My burn is gone! Thanks for all of the help.. This sounds gross but one of the major things that helped was coconut oil! Apple cider vinegar took the sting right out too. I actually tried a bunch of remedies but I'm golden and not pink today yay! Thanks everyone!

I heard both vinegar and aloe help.. I use vinegar

MercTech -> RE: Sun Burn Remedies? Help! (8/11/2014 4:23:41 PM)

The active ingredient in aloe vera is Vitamin E which stimulates skin growth.
When I get sunburned (all too easily) I take two vitamin E capsules (1000iu). Bite the end off one and apply the oil directly and swallow the other. It helps keep from nasty peeling.

If the sunburn is very bad, and you can get second degree sunburn, a physician can prescribe silvadene. Silvadene is for bad burns and is rather like a cold cream with vitamin e and colloidal silver.

A topical lidocaine is often prescribed to numb the pain and allow one to sleep also.

If things are too bad for aloe and over the counter sunburn remedies to provide relief; there are prescription remedies that kick it up a notch.

I'm to blond and blue eyed to deal well with tropical sun well but it doesn't stop me. <grin>

Good luck! Sunburn is the worst >_< Don't use any lotions with alcohol in them!!! It'll burn your skin!!!!!

SinfulBashful -> RE: Sun Burn Remedies? Help! (10/18/2014 12:21:19 AM)

put apple cider vinegar on it. it doesn't cure it but it takes the pain away.. for a little while.

RickOnTheRocks -> RE: Sun Burn Remedies? Help! (10/26/2014 5:34:58 AM)

Basically any sun screen or after burn lotion works...but it needs to be put on very often because the skin will quickly absorb it in the beginning.
