I'd love to hear from anyone who has used gas masks or hoods or other bondage in conjunction with breathing restrictions and breath control. What safety protocols did you implement? What did you use/how did you set it up? What was fun and what wasn't?
Thanks,
Smythe

I do breath play and yes, include gas masks in this.

Gas masks themselves work as breath control. One's breathing is different while wearing it and you have to really adjust with different activities and exertion. Running in a gas mask isn't a lot of fun when it's involuntary breath play lol.

On top of that, I usually just use controlling the in-valve in various ways and lengths of time.

Safety? I don't tend to do it with anyone that has breathing problems to begin with... and not gonna bother going into details of "well, if they start to seem like they're gonna pass out, you might wanna stop" kind of things... but getting familiar with how long my partner can normally safely hold their breath and then counting in my head different lengths of seconds within that while paying attention to their sounds, body language, and safety signals we've set up, and so on.

Also, having both of us familiar and fast in putting them on and pulling them off. I had a hell of a panic and nausea attack once during a class while in my mask and let me tell ya you wanna know how to rip that sucker off in the case of either...

That brings up something that is often overlooked in thinking about breath play when gas masks come up: vomiting, crying, salivating... anything coming up fast from the mouth is a risk for aspiration (at least in US masks, I can't speak for all models in the world) due to the construction. Snot from crying and over-salivating ditto, plus they can quickly just interfere with breathing itself.

Just wearing it long enough that you've been sweating heavy you start having kind of a slurping thing going on.

I'd suggest getting, if you get a US one, to get the most recent previous model and not the current. The previous had a detached hood, whereas it's built-in on the new ones. This makes a difference in play and can cause a real delay in an emergency timing to remove it.

I've had fun a variety of ways using the different bits I've mentioned above: limiting or stopping or messing with their inflow, changing their exertion levels, playing normally with them and just letting the natural restrictions of it add to the scene.... yadayada.

I usually top with them. I enjoy wearing them for non-bottoming as I feel a sort of sexy fascination with them that developed during service... I think it comes from enjoying the gas chamber and using them from then on. Fun misery bonding thing that is left over.

I like the Israeli style gas masks for breath play. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/411cUIGh74L._SX342_.jpg

There's a little plastic cap with a hole it it that screws into the place where the canister would be if it were on. One finger over that hole and you can't breath. Let off the finger and taa daa, air supply! It's simple, effective, and the masks are easy to find. It can also be used for smoke fetish with air restriction scenes. It's a lot of fun.
