TNDommeK -> The new mad max (7/28/2014 4:54:06 PM)

I'm excited about it. I don't have the link here for the trailer.
What are y'all's thoughts?
Tom Hardy is Mad Max.

I saw the trailer, and while I thought it showed promise, it raises questions, such as, Max's car was destroyed in Road Warrior. Does this take place before, and in the trailer, it is also destroyed as well. It's not described as a reboot, nor a sequel. Color me intrigued enough to go see it, but until then I'm scratching my head over this one.

The trailer for the new Mad Max movie struck me as a car chase fest with only a passing nod to the stories that came before.

I was a major fan of "Mad Max", which I saw in the theater on its first run. My reaction to "The Road Warrior", which is the movie most people seem to think of as "Mad Max", is mostly "bleh." "Blunderdome..." I need a hit of brain bleach everytime I think of that turkey.

Given the progression of the movies, perhaps a black hole will suck up the new one before it is actually released.

I think the casting of Tom Hardy is brilliant. I can't think of any other actors that would be able to succeed Mel Gibson in such an iconic role.

If people want to watch Mad Max they should go out and buy a VCR, why all these remakes? It's lack of imagination or perhaps the business of trying to make money through knowing what once was popular and not caring too much about the story telling.

If they show that boomerang cutting off someone's fingers in this remake then you know I'm right.

lazarus1983 -> RE: The new mad max (8/1/2014 5:32:33 PM)

It's not a remake. It's a sequel.

Didn't it end already with children inheriting the world or some similar hippy/rainbow inspired theme?

Where can it go from there? I distinctly member them doing the tell.

I read somewhere that the current version is actually described as a prequel to Mel Gibson's movie. That being said, I have to agree that I don't see the point to mining known hits. The Robocop remake outright sucked; Godzilla was a disappointment. Much as I like the current crop of super hero movies, rebooting Spider-man was entirely unnecessary. Personally, I'd be happier with Hollywood leaving the remakes and reboots alone for a while.

That was the story for that band of kids, it wasn't meant to say the whole world suddenly got better. Max was in the same position he was at the end of the Road Warrior, standing alone in the desert.

Damn, now I want to watch Beyond Thunder dome.

That would explain why his car is intact, as it was destroyed in The Road Warrior.

Yep the Mad Max films were good for their time. They obviously didn't envisage the existence of airbags and ncap testing however.

People could have imagined these things because science fiction often inspires technological development. My fear is that if nobody ever imagines anything beyond Mad Max then we may never develop a fuel of the future that isn't based on pig shit. We all need to move beyond Tina Turner also.
