I'm sorry that I wasnt more specific with my statement...I should have said that the odds of it not hurting to try, are low. There is danger in almost everything we do in life but if we let that stop us from trying, then how boring would life be? I'm a maso sub...I take risks with my body but hey....thats not going to stop me.
By the way.....trying acupuncture is something I'd be highly unlikely to try (I suffer from pain which is managed with drugs), but the OP was asking if anyone had tried it and Ive had horses where it seemed to have worked and thats how I worded my response.

And everyone knows that Wikipedia is never wrong!

Wikipedia is a great tool when used correctly you always need to go to the primary sources. In this particular case what you'll find a well researched entry pointing to a significant body of scientific evidence. So when I say: "I've given you the wiki which cites the research on the subject demonstrating pretty conclusively that it is." .....well see for yourself what I'm referring to:

As I understand it negative outcomes are uncommon.

Typically we determine what dangers are acceptable via a risk benefit analysis as such comparing this risk to other risks we might be willing to engage in absent an analysis of the benefits is unsound. For instance while we might accept a relatively high level of risk for a highly beneficial actual therapy, for instance brain surgery to remove a deadly tumor it doesn't actually follow that we should take any level of risk for a sham therapy when there are other sham therapies which can't cause physical damage.

Though I'm not confident the OP has exhausted legitimate options and should be seriously considering any flimflam.....if it is time to give junk medicine a try why not start with something that actually can't hurt you? Reiki for instance.

~FR

I've looked into all types of options for pain management and for the condition I have, I've done nothing but read this past week. I have an appointment with the Orthopedic next week and will discuss all options with him. I have to go for another MRI in September to see if the splint is helping get more blood flow through the bone, if not then surgery is inevitable. I've had 3 different doctor opinions on surgery, my med doc and 2 orthopedic docs (who are not in practice together), they have all said the same thing plus everything I read on it. I have a very high pain tolerance level so I'm really surprised that this is almost to the point of being unbearable.
