I'm curious as to what other people think about labelling someone?

Labels are labels. we use the every single day in our life.

"he/she is cruel"
"he/she is wonderful"
"he/she is sadistic"
"he/she is masochistic"
"he/she is handsome/pretty"

There is nothing wrong with labeling someone.
It's how we use the intention behind the label that matters.

Is it derogatory? Playful? Meant to incite anger or violence? Meant to induce confidence or undermine confidence?

You can not control how others will use the labels. You can only control your response to them.

sure, just remember that it is subject to change at the holders discretion, at the readers discretion, at the public's discretion.....[:o]

Yikes! Did I ever mention that Country Music is a demon that slithered out of Satan's anus? Satan then rapes this hell spawn, and said hell spawn gave birth to the incestuous progeny named Rap.

-=The more you know=-

IrishMist -> RE: Sticky Labels (9/24/2014 4:01:28 PM)

that may be...

Only one who can sing that song with any authority though is Jimmy Buffet...all the others are just practicing their vocal scales.

I have difficulty labeling myself.

Get nake (nake being the present tense of naked) and have a friend help.

I totally wish labels were easier.

Have you tried post it notes....totally awesome unless you are all sweaty.

So that is why I am addicted to rap.

Spiritedsub2 -> RE: Sticky Labels (9/24/2014 9:00:57 PM)

Agreed. I wouldn't go out on a first date without a label...

DesFIP -> RE: Sticky Labels (9/24/2014 9:14:14 PM)

Labels are a starting point, that's all.

If I have a hankering for peaches, I want the label to be clear. I don't want to open the can and discovery it's actually tuna fish.

Same with looking for a compatible partner. I want to know that the other person is a straight, cisgender, male and not a lesbian. Because I don't want a lesbian as my partner, I'm not compatible with one as a romantic partner.

Now, that's just where you start. I don't expect the label to have the expectations that he's also a nonsmoker and nondrinker. For those kind of details, that's where conversation comes in.

MariaB -> RE: Sticky Labels (9/25/2014 1:34:45 AM)

I agree with those who say labels have there place.

The problem with this site in particular is, it insists you have one of a handful of labels, no exceptions and its that very label (which often doesn't fit) that bring people clamouring to your mail box. When CM became CS I really wish they had dealt with that.

ResidentSadist -> RE: Sticky Labels (9/25/2014 1:41:10 AM)

Freaking anti label nuts... just because you don't know who or what you are, doesn't mean the rest of are equally as lost. Next time you go grocery shopping, 'take all the labels off the food.,, see how that works out for you.

'Youre not a real sub'...'you're not a Dom'

Really?
Is there a bdsm manual somewhere which defines exactly how someone who is on either side should act?
Cause I've been under the misguided illusion that everyone is unique and individual, in and out of bdsm....

Urgh labels 'shudders'

That's fine providing those labels are an accurate description of the contents. As none of the label options on here fit my brief description, I may as well be a tin of tuna with a label saying pilchards.'

More labels won't change that. I call myself a submissive, say I'm looking for a dominant man; that doesn't keep the sub men from hitting me up "for play" in my inbox. I find many men don't give a rat's ass what the label is if you have a pussy.

The gender door swings both ways on that one. All the cock crazed horny housewives that want you to work 24/7 to fulfill their fantasy of a life of torture and sex, shoving your cock in them everyday from the time they wake up until they fall asleep in your cage on the end of your chain. Apparently getting fucked and sucking dick is what they think torture is. . . . well, they don't always read profiles so good either.

sexyred1 -> RE: Sticky Labels (9/25/2014 9:58:51 AM)

I used to hate labels, but now I find them somewhat useful.

They help to reject someone without insulting them.

If a submissive male or couple writes me, I can just say no thanks and be done with it.

As for Dominant men....I actually met more Dominant men that I had relationships back in the day when we met as vanillas. I think that was because we were unaware of our mutual preferences and were thus able to concentrate on our mutual chemistry. That way, when getting intimate, when he or I brought BDSM up, we were already so into each other it worked.

I think I was lucky, only one guy I met that way turned out to be not Dom.
