The patients having addictions literally BEATEN out of them: Bizarre form of psychotherapy sees people given up to 60 lashes with a cane

I would amend what Twain said to include ALL politicians.

Well gee, it's never stopped any of my bad habits. Maybe I need more than a good caning. :)

Edited to add the word "bad".

Actually I like being both. I am a hedonist and a sadist. A lot of people in the kink world use bdsm (and the chemical release it triggers) to "self medicate". I myself get a rush when actually applying pain, its equivalent to the same thing.

.. actually I would include all lawyers too

I call bullshit. I have been sober for 14 years and it took a metric fuckton of hard fucking work. Someone caning me would only have made me uncomfortable sitting on my bar stool. You cannot beat the addiction out of someone. They have to want to get over the addiction. What happens when they tire of the sessions and the endorphins are no longer giving them the high they are needing. This "treatment" has FAIL written all over it. The key point to support that statement is that they indicated that a few patients "may" be getting over their addiction. You don't ever really get over your addiction, but you can nullify its affect on you. These people are scam artists that have opened a pro-dominant clinic where people pay to get their ass beaten. That they claim it is treating addiction is fucking ridiculous.

I'm reading this article with some healthy skepticism. One, it's from the Daily Mail. Two, those pictures seem to have a staged feel to me.

I'm asking as someone who is not a recovering addict, so take my questions/comments with a grain of salt.

Wouldn't the fact that you lean more dominant lead to this kind of treatment not working for you? After all, if you're not into being on that side of the slash, I can't see how it would release endorphins on an effective level anyway.

And it's not uncommon for people with addictions to replace them in a sense with other endorphin-producing activities. Weight lifting, for instance. I wouldn't see this kind of clinic as a sole path to sobriety, but one way of achieving that need. And in that case, it definitely wouldn't be true for everyone (especially not for a Dom.) But I don't think a one size fits all way to sobriety really works.

I really don't see the need to fly to Siberia for it vs. the local dungeon (except maybe their insurance doesn't cover an actual pro-domme?), but hey, it fills a niche? Maybe Siberia actually has more of a need for this clinic as opposed to a new dungeon? Or maybe we've got it all wrong and this is just a dungeon for people who are really into a medical fetish roleplay?

I know nothing of the Daily Mail... so I will say that the article seemed a little contrived. The two pictures were likely staged.

No worries. Happy to answer. [:)]

I am certainly no expert on addiction so take what I say in light of that fact. Treating addiction has to do with many different things, while this could play a part in it, no one is going to achieve sobriety based on someone beating their ass with a stick. As far as my dominance goes and not lending itself to this type of "treatment" I can assure you that I am being very objective with my statements. From what I have learned over the years, this type of thing cannot "cure" addiction, even if I was the subliest submissive to ever submit to subliness.

I cannot speak for everyone, but those that seek to begin a healthy regimen of exercise, diet, etc. while trying to kick addiction has less to do with the endorphins as it does to fill the time the addict now finds empty because they are not using. An endorphin rush is quite temporary anyway... addicts are a bit more hardcore than that.

While true that there are many paths to sobriety and no one way is the twue way, there are some basic principles that are needed for good, solid recovery and that are common to all with addiction problems. The best way to get sober is the one that works for you.

If this is actually a clinic that deals with addiction recovery, then they are targeting a desperate clientele who need all the help they can get. Can it hurt their recovery? No. Will it cure the addiction? No. That they have claims to have some people who "may" have recovered due to their treatment is misleading at best, and very dangerous at worst.

I am deadly serious when it comes to my sobriety and recovery, I am even in the process of writing a book about it. That aside, my opinions about recovery are very strong, and that is why I posted what I did. Sobriety is a process of changing your way of thinking, and it is a process of changing your core behaviors, it is a drastic lifestyle change. Anything that can help along the way is fine with me, but it is just helping the addict cope. The real war is waged between your ears.

I hope I answered your questions. Feel free to ask more if you want.

Ah, the English. Illegal as porn - legal as therapy.

Its pro domination at its best and I'm not surprised they have so many clients. Interestingly, the man was being beaten by a female and the female was being beaten by a man.

Oh, I'm sure they'd accommodate gender preference if you said you were shy. They've just figured out a way to legitimize and tax it. Seriously. Is it different than an escort service for those of a particular persuasion? This therapy is something many in the lifestyle have believe for some time.

I imagine there will be a lot of world travelers going there for therapy. So much easier than going to a club to find the right 'sort' and likely cheaper. I wonder if they'll do outs call to hotel rooms. More importantly, is it covered by universal health care?
