No, they felt because I am diabetic and impetigo being what it is, or rather suspicious unknown blisters it was very serious and I should talk to the next available Dr. by phone

I'm glad but next time insist on being seen first.

I've had doctors prescribe over the phone. Impetigo as an adolescent, pink eye, sinus infections. However, in each case this was not the first time I've had it, so they knew that I was familiar with it.

Your choice Des but personally I want a doctor to see what's going on.

LittleGirlHeart -> yup, saw dr in person and se said it is indeed impetigo (1/13/2015 5:31:58 PM)

So the phone dr was right. But I did get to ask her about something else while there.

Pink eye is pretty much hard to mistake for anything else. Same with recurring sinus infections. Lean forward or press above or below the eye and there's pain, yup that's another sinus infection. Of course, I've had a CT of the sinuses and them scoped to make sure nothing was going on. Third hand smoke exposure will set it off for me.

The bacteria that cause impetigo are often indigenous to the skin surface. Exposure to another person with impetigo gives you a much higher concentration of the bacteria which triggers the infection. Also, skin pH changes can cause a bacteria bloom causing an impetigo infection.

I've had impetigo that started with compromised skin due to chemical dermatitis (something on the skin that irritated and compromised the integrity of the skin). The skin has normally a population of fungus and bacteria but none in concentrations to cause a problem. When something changes the balance; an infection can result. i.e. fungal rash or yeast infections when taking antibiotics for an internal infection.

If your lip waxed; it is possible that it caused enough irritation to trigger impetigo but not likely. If your cosmetologist follows health department guidelines; very unlikely.

The good thing is that impetigo usually lasts about three weeks and goes away faster. Topical antibiotics, even OTC neosporin, speed the healing. Keflex would be a step up from OTC treatment. Be aware that taking oral antibiotics can trigger a fungal infection as it is killing off ALL the bacteria. (Personally, I use topical anti-fungals when I have to take antibiotics to prevent a case of "jock-itch". I say jock itch as I'm male. A yeast infection would be the equivalent in women.)

Antibiotics and topical ointment will allow the infection to heal with minimal scarring.

It went away very fast, I think I am going to have a scar.

I wasn't in contact with anyone but Daddy and her that day.
