[MOD EDIT to remove quote of pulled post]

Just wondering Muse if you have all the facts?

Butch

I was assured in another thread that when I said something that failed to condemn a cop I was accused of automatically defending the police. Now when I haven't even made an appearance in the thread someone has to get a head start on the attacks, not that I would have expected anything else from him.
I agree with gauge (that's a rarity) it seems that pulling a gun is excessive.
On the other hand snowballs with ice or rocks at their core can be dangerous. It would seem that I have to make one of those awful pro cop statements and point out that I would like more information.

“There was no snowball fight,” New Rochelle Deputy Police Commissioner Anthony Murphy told the Daily News, calling the video a piece of “clever mischief.”

He said police were responding to a 911 call around 4 p.m. Friday that a teenager standing in a group of six near the Heritage Houses had pulled a gun from his waistband and pointed it at another person. “We dispatched several cars to the area. Police officers got out of their cars and one of the individuals bent down, adjusted something in his waistband and ran,” Murphy said.

As one officer took off after the suspect, another remained with the five teens who did not run, Murphy said. “Don’t f-----g move, guys,” the cop shouts in one of two clips that were sent to the Talk of the Sound.

Two teens can be seen in the video kneeling with their hands in the air. The officer frisks both of them before ordering them to stand up. “The group was compliant,” Murphy said. “(At the same time) the other cop is in foot pursuit of the suspect that had the gun.

That is nothing like we were told it was. Could it be that some knee jerk cop hater misrepresented what happened?

I don't think so. It's never happened before.

Your right, and how many times have we been told there is no such thing as a knee jerk cop hater.

Aren't provocative news stories nice projective tests of attitudes and underlying assumptions of human society and nature??
Google: "new rochelle snowball video" for the range of media treatments. I'll go with the quotes from the New Rochelle police chief. YMMV
Not that I'm not Very cynical about many LEO officers and their conduct, having been victim of shabby and indefensible treatment as well as knowing a number of the local force, bad and good. Police reflect the society they are drawn from?

I have spent most of my life around cops.
Some I wouldn't let drive a car, let alone give them a badge and a gun.
At least as many others put their lives on the line without thinking about it.
For most it is just a job.
Rotten hours not paid enough for what they do (nether are teachers, firemen, or soldiers), and no matter what they do it is wrong.

Well Kirata if the version you are presenting is true maybe the " Cops always over react and are really jack booted skin heads out to kill minorities and eat chillin" may learn a lesson about waiting for the full story.

Not the way to bet.

I'm not sure what I think about chasing an armed youth into an unfamiliar building. Particularly alone? Maybe a little fool hardy or extra heroic?
For every public criticism doesn't some citizen approach an officer with quiet support? We know what the media reports . . .
It helps if someone in uniform hasn't lately done a snow angel in some cow patties, metaphorically.

Heroic and foolhardy sometimes overlap.
Last summer I saw a cop in a Subway. He was having his sandwich and this black kid, about six, ran up to him and gave him a hug.

When snowballs are illegal, criminals will reign.

When I was 17, I got into a fight in a movie theater (over stupid shit...I was 17). The cops were called.

This was a day when cops were pigs, we thought. And they could have come in guns blazing and reinforced that attitude.

Instead, they immediately separated us, took us to different places, and mine calmly said, "So tell me what happened." I talked. He listened, and said "Don't you think it would have been easier to just go get the manager?" He was right. "Just have a seat in the car and we'll see if we can sort this thing out."

My respect for the police did a 180 that day.

Swipe? I called you on it.

If you don't mean it, and don't plan to stand by it, maybe it's not something you should espouse.

Something to think about.

For about the forth time and now just for your benefit, I'll explain the logic of my signature line. Taking criminals off the street would go a whole lot farther reducing gun violence where as the opposite would do little to nothing. For example, the idiot who shot up a school yard in Stockton CA in 1989 and started the "assault weapon" hysteria should by all rights never have been allowed back in polite society. He had previous convictions for gun crimes. Had he still resided behind bars he couldn't have committed a gun crime.

See how that works

Something to think about[8D]

Musicmystery -> RE: cop pulls his gun on teens 'armed with snowballs' (2/4/2015 9:46:25 AM)

Lot of sputtering going on over there.

And because when directly asked about your stance, you could only dodge and dismiss, without any defense.

That's the trouble with sound bites. They only sound good...but no substance when held up to scrutiny.

lovmuffin -> RE: cop pulls his gun on teens 'armed with snowballs' (2/4/2015 9:49:59 AM)

Well there you go, spouting off knee jerking jerking off yet again. Try reading post #46.

Musicmystery -> RE: cop pulls his gun on teens 'armed with snowballs' (2/4/2015 9:52:33 AM)

Uh-huh. You tried that already. See response.

Good one, referring to some response or another that doesn't exist.

Back at ya. Hence the knee jerk thingy...

You (and now, predictably, Bama), are refuting positions I never took.

I'm ready to stand behind mine. You cave and start dancing when yours are questioned.
