I do a lot of femdom research (both serious and prurient) where the use of a leather or latex hood is apparently relatively common ... and ... well ... I was just wondering, since I've never worn a hood, what's the difference?

Besides the obvious that a hood covers more skin, is there a functional difference in your experience?

I mean, since the mouth can be gagged separately, and since the eyes can be blindfolded separately (I guess I should start wondering about the ears?), why bother with a stretchy hood, when a simple blindfold and gag might suffice to functionally dim the senses?

Since hoods exist, there must be something particular (for the pleasure of either the sub or the top) about a hood in functionality?
But what?

To me, a hood is more complete sensory deprivation. I don't mind blindfolds, but I will not have a hood put on me.

A few straps around the head is a very different feeling than having the whole head encased. Think bikini versus full bodysuit.

Objectification. Wearing a hood makes it easier to become an 'it'.. sometimes being 'it' is awesome. ;)

I once had a partner bring a leather hood over.

I absolutely said no.

I would never wear one and I like objectification.

I prefer using a hood just because it seems foolproof. Blindfolds can slip too easily, and even when secure they don't always block vision as completely as a hood. I use a washable, stretchy hood that has an opening for the mouth but covers everything else.

I think this is very intriguing, and I agree with you, especially as we males are often NOT objectified, but, some of us are wired to love the feeling of being used for our bodies, as objects (tools of your pleasure), so to speak.

That's interesting, and, I would agree that "cleanable" must be critical for something that covers so completely.
Is it the norm to have latex versus leather, in that respect?

I like neoprene or cloth, even. Leather is a one-person only product, in my world, and it can be hot and a bit uncomfortable. But then, that's why it is used, when it is.

I like blindfolds and gags over hoods.

Hoods make me wayyyyy claustrophobic. And also, hoods would mess up my hair more.

We use hoods a lot, a nice leather one that laces at the back of the head with eyes and ears padded, the mouth is open
A couple of spandex/neoprene ones, spandex is good, the neoprene tends to stick to hair unpleasantly( for us), one is full face and one has an open mouth
Weve got a couple of cheap latex ones, one has a "penis" gag. But they cause so much sweating(perspiring or glowing)

Definitely for sensory deprivation and enclosure, it removes sight, it removes speaking(if the mouth is shut)it distorts hearing, it heightens everything else, smell taste, (great if you like the smell of hot leather or latex. He loves being tied up at the back, like a corset lacing, each tug on the laces put him in deeper. All he can feel is me, all he can smell is me, and the hood, and makes him wonder what the hell is coming next

That's an interesting observation, because, while it removes sight, it only partially removes hearing, so, it's sort of a dulling of that particular sense.

Wow. That's an intriguing use of the audio, which gives me an idea, being that I'm both service oriented and I inherently derive pleasure by learning how to do things exactly the way SHE wants them done.

This (mythical) She could record instructions, perhaps for making tea that evening, or bathing her feet, or preparing dinner, and, with the hood helmet on, it would guide my every move and thoughts. Heh heh ... dangerous in the hands of the wrong woman!
