I don't believe he got the idea from the book. I do believe, however, that the book may have given him the okay (in his mind) to proceed with something that was already in him. He admitted he knew it was wrong and did it anyway.
It's the same as kids being excused for violence because they play violent video games.
IMO, all of these things just reinforce what's already there.

I think a lot of people will use the books and movie to legitimize their darker fantasies. I hope they come here and learn rather than do more of the above.

I agree with both of you.
I'm hoping, cynically, that it slows down the sales a bit.

Excerpt: "Hossain used a knit cap to cover the woman's eyes, Karr said, and removed the woman's bra and underwear. He then began striking the woman with a belt. After hitting her several times, the woman told Hossain he was hurting her, told him to stop, "and began shaking her head and crying," said Karr."

"Hossain continued striking the woman — including with his fists, according to an arrest report — and she managed to get one arm, and then another, free. But he then held her arms behind her back and sexually assaulted her as she continued to plead for him to stop, according to Karr."

That is just amazing. i guess stupid is as stupid does. I'm can only imagine what idiocy the movie will inspire. I also wonder if the bail being set at $500,000 had anything to do with the book. I did a quick google on sexual assault and assult. Seems like $10,000 bail was the low average and $100,000 was the high average.

I think it DID have to do with the book. I mean, he's (rightfully) being made an example of, in my opinion.

I don't know, yeah the book might have inspired him, but really , it could have been any sexy book excuse.

I agree with this. He's a grown man and as such knows the difference between consent and none consent. No doubt the film excited him but he was already a potential rapist.

You're talking about the high bail right? I think that may be it too. Maybe the prosecutor thinks with 100 million books out there, this is only the begging of ignorance in action and he wants to put a scare into any potential idiots contemplating something similar.

I believe a rapist will use any excuse to try and justify their actions. A book or movie isn't going to turn someone into a rapist if those tendencies weren't there to begin with. JMO

When I first saw Star Wars the Darth Vader choke hold was AWESOME!!!! I've not quite perfected it and I still have to make sure she says, "Yes please!"

While I suspect (I will allow due process do its thing) that this was a rape *cough*cleverly*cough* disguised as movie madness, we've all seen, heard, read about breath play going very wrong. The books and movie are exposing people to forbidden fruit, so interest will spike, and more of this will happen, hopefully not in such a negative way, but we're going to hear a lot more of "uneducated" BDSM going wrong.

The kinks I have from the beginning have remained and I haven't incorporated more, just refined and expanded on those that have always interested me. However, as I've found kink communities my exposure to things have been mind boggling. Things that I never though would be a kink/fetish are kinks and fetishes. Again, the things I've always been interested in remain, only refined and expanded, and I've not added much of anything, though now I know HOW MUCH is out there.

Much like the "breath play" that goes wrong, we are going to see more BDSM gone wrong, cuz unlike flying like superman, kinky sex is very obtainable and can be emulated "as seen in the movies". The most we can hope for is that people find an education before proceeding.

Jus sayin

I agree and this is why we mustn't mock and patronize the 'Grey Crowd' when they come here...hard as that might be

I was experimenting with S&M things long before attempting to gather information and knowledge about it and I'll admit that some of those things were pretty dangerous. I'm cringing as I write this because one particular incident was so f**cking dangerous. Saying that, I always knew it was consensual. I didn't get my riding crop and start beating my nilla boyfriend with it, at least not before discussing if he'd like to try it first

A lot of people think there will be no "Grey crowd", but I think it'll be a trickle rather than an out right rush as it stews in the back of their heads, as BF's and GF's start to voice the fantasy allure of the books/movies. So I'm anticipating it and have been really scrutinizing new posters. I hate getting lured into a sock game with someone just being a rampaging idiot to stir the boards because it makes me too skeptical of earnest newbs looking for real answers.

Again, I hope people really seek out information and education before more "headlines" land in here.
