Actually Obama might e able to intern all deniers in the country. Deniers of anything for that matter. The precident was set with EO 9066 and upheld by SCOTUS. Might trigger a civil war, but might be legal. I am not a lawyer so not sure.

That is an alarming possibility. You may want to go into hiding tonight.

That 1010 video has me thinking; why is it so hard to find clothing in natural fibers any more?
In my line of work there is a good reason not to wear synthetics and it is becoming more and more difficult to find anything but petrochemical leftovers made clothing.

That could be the latest scare tactic for manufactured news drama; if you wear dead dinosaur clothing you get covered in radioactive material just by walking around after dark.

Quite the striking photo, which I couldn't find at either of your links.

It would awfully interesting to learn the circumstances in which it was shot. It must have taken quite a shock to produce a reaction like that--especially from Al Gore, not the most expressive of beings.

ETA: It's clear from both the original headline of the Tribune article and Gore's own words as quoted therein that he was talking about paying a political price, not any sort of prosecution.

joether -> RE: Climate Change (3/18/2015 1:05:11 AM)

When I read your post, I suspected two things almost immediately:

1 ) That you were looking for something....ANYTHING....to show dcnovice. But that you never CHECKED THE INFORMATION to see if any of it was factual or not.

2 ) Its a cut/paste job from some anti-climate change site that....ALSO.....didn't bother to check the facts. Or maybe they did, and were hoping the ignorant would take the information 'as is' without checking on it.

You really have a bad habit of not checking the information. If your going to be pushing the argument, wouldn't it make sense to first check if the information is legitimately violent or if it's taken out of context to push a political ideologically?

BTW, I'm not in favor of those whom seek violence or threats as a way to 'get what they want'. Such individuals would use firearm and explosive to push their view, rather than pen and good argument.

It's best to read something in context for its full understanding.... Of three pages, I can see how this quote could be taken out of context....

quote:

ORIGINAL: Aylee
“When we’ve finally gotten serious about global warming, when the impacts are really hitting us and we’re in a full worldwide scramble to minimize the damage, we should have war crimes trials for these bastards—some sort of climate Nuremberg.” —David Roberts, Grist, Sep. 19, 2006

Seems this one took some actual researching. There are a number of 'anti-climate change' books that place Mr. Robert's as the original speaker of these words. This would however, not be true. Mr. Roberts was quoting another author, George Monbiot's book "Heat: How to Stop the Planet From Burning". I'm going to take a guess that Mr. Monbiot's words are....again....taken out of context; but I have not read the book to know.

quote:

ORIGINAL: Aylee

This one is taken out of context.

Check the information. How many times have we seen conservatives and libertarians in this nation say stuff that was offensive if not violent sounding? How many times did they or one of their spokespeople say later their speech should not have been taken literally? If your going to blame this guy, you would have to blame just about every Tea Party politician and about half of the Republican Party!

quote:

ORIGINAL: Aylee

It does sound violent when taken out of context, doesn't it?

Check out the 'Notes' section at the very bottom of the page.

Dare I say, this sounds almost vaguely 'libertarian' in nature. Also remember that this guy is talking about things from his native land, not the United States of America. Yes, people live in other nations, and do write stuff. The laws and politicians in those lands are the same and different as those in the USA. I guess this one is about perspective given knowledge on the writer.

This is a repeat from the first one above.

How many videos have I seen on liberal websites that show Tea Partiers both known and not, say that Democrats (including that guy in the Oval Office) should be jailed for any number of reasons? An most, if given some time to think on what they stated, may have tone down their words, given the fallout that erupted shortly there after. I'm not going to defend this guy's views; they are his own. He was in America (as far as I could tell), so he has a 1st amendment right.

If we are going to punish the liberal Americans for stating violent stuff; then its fair to do the same with conservatives and libertarians too. I think the prison population will be heavily weighed towards the conservatives and libertarians rather than liberals and moderates.

Please go on. This time, try to show stuff that is...IN CONTEXT. Of course, I would like you to also show those that behave irrationally and/or violent/dangerous towards others from the other side of the perspective on the topic of Climate Change. Call it a 1:1 perspective of viewpoints from either side that have cross the line (if what they stated was taken in context). Because I know you wish to be fair and honest in your argument!

bounty44 -> RE: Climate Change (3/18/2015 4:54:25 AM)

I totally agree that people need to be careful to not take things out of context. so wanting to be "fair", I set out to go through your list of responses to the quotes aylee posted.

"Its a cut/paste job from some anti-climate change site.."

what? did you expect them to be on al gore's fan page??

anyway...

I got to the first one, read the fireman's blog, and absolutely could not make out how what aylee quoted is "out of context."

I got to the second one, the journalist, and absolutely could not make out how his quote was taken "out of context" either.

I got to the third one, and said, okay, it doesn't matter in this instance who the quote was attributed to, it doesn't change its essence.

I got to the fourth one, the one you implied was missing information. the only missing information is a spokesperson saying "oh he didn't literally mean put them in jail, he's just kinda frustrated by them you know" despite the fact that the guy calls "ignoring climate science" an intergenerational crime and has stated "throw the politicians" in jail on more than one occasion.

so given your 0 for 4 run, im not sure why I should continue. I only expect more of the same.

maybe you can please explain exactly how each of these things are "out of context" instead of just saying they are and having the reader take your word for it.

or why we shouldn't take people at their word when they have repeatedly said something and have put their words into the context of a crime being committed.

FR,

so because you morons can't argue the science, you derail it to make Ad Hominems about liberals wanting to arrest deniers. Wow, you people really are desperate [8|] although I agree, if deniers prevent action to be taken which results in the death of people, why shouldn't they be prosecuted for it?

Here is another one for you, DC.

KenDckey -> RE: Climate Change (3/18/2015 7:31:24 AM)

What is interesting is that if the country locked up all the deniers (more or less 50% of the country for sake of argument) the remaining portion of the country would have to support the deniers. Three hots and a cot, medical, TV, internet (there are lots of precident for these types of things) and you can't force them to work so the other 50% of the country would have to support them along with those that believe that unemployment benefits are preferable to work. And since the country would have a hard time convicting them of a crime, they would continue to receive social security, annuities, retirement, etc.

Tkman117 -> RE: Climate Change (3/18/2015 8:57:39 AM)

The issue isn't the people Ken, people can say and have any opinion they want since that usually doesn't hurt anyone. It's the politicians, the ones who actively prevent changes that could prevent damages and death resulting from climate change. I mean, the allies were more than willing to convict Hitler for the evil acts he committed, even though he wasn't the one who physically pulled the trigger or turned on the gas chambers. But beyond just the politicians, it's also people like the Koch brothers who invest so much money into denying the science in order for them to continue making billions. The simple solution for that would be getting money out of politics since money doesn't equal free speech, but that's easier said than done.
