DerangedUnit -> heavy duty dog collars? (3/16/2015 8:32:37 PM)

Anyone have any ideas on leather coatings that are close to indestructible? Or some interesting new ideas.... as you can see(if the pic loaded) mine has pretty close to seen it's last day, I've got my weather coated titanium ones for showering and all but my decorative tagged one is showing my age ;) this one was painted leather, has anyone seen anything more wear resistant without going into a second metal one? (Perferably with color options, black is ick)

I'm loving their collars (for girls)Collars for girls. Depends on your style/favorite colors, spikes or rhinestones? My subbie's collar looks amazing on him, I love it.

DerangedUnit -> RE: heavy duty dog collars? (3/16/2015 9:31:36 PM)

They are pretty(the heart rhinestone one and the "monroe") but they dont come in colors other than brown or black :( my wardrobe wouldnt match so well.

The Girly Route?

DerangedUnit -> RE: heavy duty dog collars? (3/16/2015 9:47:19 PM)

Haha precisely I like the description but id break it in a day(and superman and I have beef) that first site did dye there own leather though so maybe I can find people that dye in pastels..... or just get the leather and do it next time I do my hair :P

stef -> RE: heavy duty dog collars? (3/17/2015 12:52:43 AM)

Dying in pastels really isn't possible. Dye permeates the leather, it doesn't coat it like patent leather. Any coating on leather is going to be temporary as you have already discovered.

DerangedUnit -> RE: heavy duty dog collars? (3/17/2015 7:35:25 AM)

? No my collar was coated which is why the color came off.... I had a pink fringe leather cowboy jacket when I was little that was dyed and stayed pink so that's just not the case. Of course dye is absorbed into the leather... that is what dye does, does it with fabric too. Does it when you get too much blood all over when skinning, dye dyes.

That leather came from the tannery as a pink hide. It wasn't some other color then dyed pink later. There's a world of difference between that garment and trying to take an already finished collar and somehow converting it to a pink one.

Gosh, really? Well then, since you know so much it should be trivial for you to do it then. Good luck with that.

What???

DerangedUnit -> RE: heavy duty dog collars? (3/17/2015 11:03:07 AM)

Oh hes right I better find a pink animal at the tannery rather than buying regular bleached leather if im going to dye it.... dude, dont come on peoples posts trying to sound superior and expect a different response. Obviously I have no interest in being told I can't do something, if im going to do it that's my business. And obviously if I plan on doing something I either have done it before or will know how before I try.

stef -> RE: heavy duty dog collars? (3/17/2015 1:13:06 PM)

Dude? You're just not that bright, are you?

Again, I wish you luck, you're clearly going to need it.

If I take a bleached hide, and dye it pastel pink, it will work just fine. How is it not possible?

stef -> RE: heavy duty dog collars? (3/19/2015 1:15:29 PM)

Of course that's possible. She was asking abut an indestructible coating for an existing collar, not making one from a fresh hide.

DerangedUnit -> RE: heavy duty dog collars? (3/19/2015 9:14:48 PM)

No I wasn't.

... but for that matter even stripping from leather should be possible. I used to do work dying rabbits feet for a local taxidermist when I was little and you can even strip color from fur it's just more delicate and just like hair disintegrates if you try to do it too quickly. Leather is only finicky depending on how it was tanned and if it's sealed. I've made fur collars and repurposed leather. Most likely buying will still be cheaper since I dont have my grommet puncher anymore(though I could sub in a rivet maker) but if people have ideas for what has lasted the longest that would be great.

ARIES83 -> RE: heavy duty dog collars? (3/19/2015 9:44:47 PM)

You could look for some kind of thick vinyl or latex or plastic material and make a collar out of it. Your pic doesn't show up for me.

DerangedUnit -> RE: heavy duty dog collars? (3/19/2015 9:57:21 PM)

Pffh it figures my phone tends to be a pain with putting pics on forums...

I did see an acrylic one from cyberdogs a while back... maybe get one 3d printed but most 3d printer materials are pretty fragile... I did have a poly ccoated leather one a while ago the fastener fell apart before the leather. Maybe I should make one out of the hello kitty duct tape in our toy bag lol

That collar is pretty tattered. You definitely could do with a new one.
Your neck looks tiny!

I noticed the photo was up-side down. I took the liberty of turning it right-side up. I could post it, here, for you, if you like?

Yeah I use those things pretty roughly, I'm good at wearing stuff down. All my joints are tiny thats why I have the custom cables(around wrists ankles and waist too) cuz I always just slide right out of cuffs.

Thankyou... I noticed it had flipped it but just pulled an "eh close enough" that would be nice if you could post it :)

I'll ask when I get back, he has more hello kitty stuff than I do :P posting on threads used to work until I got my new phone... my old cheap chinese knockoff one worked fine until it died then I got a Samsung and this site doesn't work at all on data and attatchments only work occasionally on all forums and links don't show as clickable until I highlight and right click... pfhh I suppose I could spend a while trying to figure it out but it hasn't bothered me enough to try to fix it yet(my limited knowledge of script writing always creates more new problems before solving the first)

DaddySatyr -> RE: heavy duty dog collars? (3/20/2015 4:04:26 PM)

I only waited because I wasn't sure if you'd posted it, up-side, down in order to kind of "obscure" it (If you can ONLY see things up-side, down or mirror-imaged, it is difficult to identify the original, in real life)
