The ingredients,in proper quantity though, would set off alarms a bit ,no ?
Whereas the ingredients needed for a mass shooting are all right there at your local gun show. Or perhaps in your closet, locked I would hope.

Clorox and ammonia sets off alarms? Buying gas sets off alarms ? Do some reading.

Hence why the FBI is more worried about 'lone wolf' attacks than 'organized cells' operating in the nation. Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nickles were virtually undetected, right up to the moment a building blew to pieces. Yet, there has been much in the way of studying behaviors in people since that time. Along with better technology and good detective work, the FBI and other groups have kept many more such attacks from taking place. A high number of them coming from conservative-viewpoint people. The next lesser group are the lunatics, followed by crazy religious types.

While resources for bombs is relatively easy to obtain, and a decent knowledge of chemistry and engineering; people's behavioral patterns are hard to conceal. Particularly when around individuals that know what to look for in potential terrorists. The FBI, state police, and even local officers have access to those resources.

The Oklahoma City bombers would not have been on the radar any earlier except in the kind of police state that would have provided some justification for their actions. BTW don't pretend that I approve of what they did, because I don't.

If the behavior study would stop a bomber it should also stop a shooter.

Not to mention that the ingredients are easier to obtain and considerably less expensive.

or that the worse mass school killing was done with a bomb, not a gun. Funny how that never comes up in these discussions.

And bombs are *ALREADY* illegal. Firearms are not. I don't know why that's such a hard concept to understand here....

It is not illegal to own the things you need to build bombs. But since having bomb being illegal stops bombing why don't we just outlaw murder, why didn't anyone think of this sooner.

Ok so it has dropped in accordance with much of the western world, by your own words you demonstrate that your draconian gun laws are not the reason, so you have just proved my primary argument.

A jaw droppingly stupid comment to make.

Sweet Jesus, Bama ... '*draconian* gun laws'? Somehow, those three words, put together, make the Atlantic suddenly look so, so big to me.

BTW, bombs are NOT illegal they just require a license. It is unlawful to build one without license, proper faculties, and for unsafe uses. If bombs were completely illegal as one would infer from some statements here there would be no mining, hard rock construction, or demolition companies.

It depends on whether you have a buddy that has an explosives license. Since you can't go get a stick or two from the hardware store any more (at one time it was fill out an ATF end use form for small quantities) stump removal is more likely to be done with a fertilizer and diesel fuel put in a coffee can type bomb.
One of the reason that "stump grinding" companies are lucrative today where they didn't exist before. A citizen can't just use a quarter stick to take care of the problem.

The childishness of this comment is astonishing. If this argument had any merit, it would be a waste of time introducing any law or making any act a crime. No one pretends that making something illegal will result in its instant and permanent cessation and disappearance. But it does draw a line that says proceed any further and there will be legal consequences. That's enough to make most people observe the law.

If this is the best you can come up with when you aren't telling flagrant lies best you consider silence - it might be your best option. You certainly aren't doing the cause you espouse any favours with this type of trite nonsense.

As I have pointed out before you need to have a new sarcasm detector installed because yours doesn't work at all.
Also I also pointed out that I had forgotten your flawed post which by the way you misrepresented. Since only half of Europe has seen crime drop are you going to admit to being a blatant liar or maybe you were just making a general point. Even with your link it should be obvious to you that crime rates drop without gun controls much as with them, except for the U S which has had the most dramatic drops.

Oh, that is another category altogether. Bleach and ammonia mixed isn't making bombs but making gas weapons.

Chlorine gas bombs, fertilizer + kerosene = Oklahoma city, those components are absolutely legal.

Maybe he's thinking of this:

Guns Per Se didnt cause yesterdays horrific events but the easy availability certainly contributed. So maybe the answer is for tighter laws, at least for obtaining guns initially . . . I personally dont see it as draconian to limit certain liberties which danger more than the individual.
