I started watching it but lost interest part way through, I found it just too predictable and contrived.

PeonForHer -> RE: Is anyone watching Outlander? (4/11/2016 11:55:18 AM)

Incidentally, many moons ago I watched a film about the Battle of Culloden. It was done like a documentary ... and it was truly hideous. As well as an utter balls-up. 'Bonnie Prince Charlie' was basically a pillock. All quite depressing, really.

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: Is anyone watching Outlander? (4/11/2016 3:54:47 PM)

At 9:38 I told Kay, "they have 20 minutes to make this right!" And voila! She was back with Jamie.

Not even trying to wrap my head around how she could get back with her husband when she has to see Black Jack Randall every time she looks On my way! At him. Maybe some of it has to do with the stigma of being a pregnant woman without s husband in 1948?

I'm happy to wait it out and let the story unfold. Right now it is not really making much sense to me.

There are a few things about the series that are just pretty brainless, and that's one of them. (Along with the fact that she's spent two years with another man ... and he's fine with taking her back, regardless - even though they'd only just got married before she flitted off back to the 18th C. Either that, or he's taking her back in the belief that she's as mad as a mongoose. Whatever: he's either a saint, or a bit lacking in some department.)

TBH, I have to say, there's a *lot* about the whole thing that's so annoyingly *female* to me. The writer wants to delve into all the love angles, and the logical stuff is a bit of a bore for her. Me, I keep thinking, 'Well how, and why, does this magical time travel stuff work?' I mean, Jesus, it uproots all the known laws of nature. But none of the characters seems to be particularly bothered by it - not even her supposedly ultra-rational, professional academic, 1948 husband. 'Yes, yes, you've travelled back in time two centuries. Who cares? Tedious, tedious, science stuff. The thing is, I love you, despite your having been humping some other man for two years (for real or in your delusions, whatever) - so let's just start again! '

Well, it *is* a silly story. It comes across like it was written by a pimply fourteen year old girl who *really* needed to get out a bit more (and particularly to places where real-life males could be seen and even, with much courage, talked to). But strangely absorbing, regardless.

Yep, caught the first ep of Series 2.

It threw me when it started with her back in the 1940s, then her suddenly being in the 18th Century again. I was thinking, 'Eh? What's going on?'

I've got to say, it really doesn't sit quite right for me that she was able to get back with her 1940s husband so easily despite the fact that she'd been with another man for two years. How does he resolve that in his head? And, at no point does he say anything like 'I'm willing to make a go of this with you again, so long as I know you love me. Do you love me?' But, then, it didn't gel for me that she slipped so easily into a romance with Jamie in the first place.

I'm not going to ask about the opener for the second season 'cause I haven't seen it, but regarding your comment on how she fell in love so easily with Jamie, I don't know if I see it that way. First, consider that her and Frank were getting reacquainted. And maybe it was the actors' portrayal and the bit of the storyline they presented, but I didn't get the sense that they were madly in love with each other. Something happened with Jamie and with how it's been presented, they seem much more of soulmates than the duo of Claire and Frank.

I had never heard of this show until a few days ago. I was disappointed to find out that you needed to have a Starz subscription (here in the US) and I wasn't going to pay for a premium station. But Starz offered up the series for free for a few days and I binge watched almost the entire thing. Somehow I missed episode 15, but based on the horrific scenes in the last episode of the first season, hopefully I didn't miss much.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do for season 2. I'm loathe to pay for t.v. beyond the outrageous standard cable fee that I already pay. And watching the first season on my iPad, I am also loathe to watch any of it without HD. The scenery was awesome!!!! Loved the cinematography. They really evoked the mood of the scene with it.

So far, gotta say I fairly much love it!!!! :)

lucy in view of what you saw, I am not going to watch it.

but it is patently obvious you are not getting enough sex.

or need a stronger vibe. xx

WickedsDesire -> RE: Is anyone watching Outlander? (4/12/2016 3:07:01 AM)

I got stuck at episode 3, or was it 5, season one on account of it being utter pants. I know it had a long mid 1st season break (silly). Perhaps it’s worth binge watching as I am doing/done now with:

Fargo season 1 and 2. A 9/10 and 10/10 respectively

Banshee season 1-4. Lets call it a weighted average of 10.

American crime. Season 1 a 2/10 wtf was that about-really urgh help me no wonder I hear voices in my head.).
American crime. Season 2 stuck at episode 5 and thinking unmitigated bollocks.

But I loved this bit from Outlander.
Outlander - Druid scene

Fargo WTF the moments Fargo Season 2 - Hanzee UFO Scene

I managed to watch the second to last episode of season one last night. And I hadn't missed that much. I found the finale far more brutal. Gosh, Tobias Menzies does such a great job of being the despicable Jack Randall. Ugh. I wish he had died differently though. I would have liked to have seen him witness Jamie and Claire be happy together before his demise.

So now I just have to wait until Starz makes Season 2 available for free...or I find someone who has Starz and invite myself over! LOL!

he is incredible isnt he...and brutal is right, im halfway thru the first season again and just got to the "flaying Jamie" part where he tells Claire his version of it, then gut punches her.. (at the time, I wanted to run him thru with a chainsaw) but what Jaime goes thru at the end of season one was YUGE.

Is it my imagination or is Jamie porking out? Maybe he's been laying into the old porridge a bit too much.

Hahaha! You funny!

I saw a few interview videos with some of the cast. The actor portraying Jamie strikes me as a bit of a goofball. Not that there's anything wrong with that! But definitely nothing at all like his character. Whereas Tobias seems a bit quiet and serious. Both of his characters are definitely serious types! So a wee bit of an essence there between him and his characters.

I like the opening paragraph in this article. Quite nicely put and rather humourous. ;)
The quotes come from some definitely swoon-worthy scenes.

Yup. I am a hopeless romantic. :) Except I can't say I care for the "hopeless" descriptor since I am almost always hopeful. :)

That prisoner rape scene was hot... especially when he broke down and branded himself.

Did the new season start?

I havent read the books, I plan to....
the last episode made me sit up rigid....
im no stranger to erotica, porn, extreme sadism, im no stranger to horror, sci fi, fantasy, and the darker side of humanity. Not much shocks me, but last night did.
A guy rubbing his dick on tv....not just once but several times. Not only that, it was during and attempted rape...
Did anyone see it, what are your thoughts?

Ive had various thoughts about it during the day....changing my mind on some original thoughts and new ones popping up at the strangest times. From the acting, to the reality, to the times, the history behind it, and yes of course the scene that caused this post:)

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: Is anyone watching Outlander? (4/14/2016 7:32:09 AM)

Kay asked me to turn the TV off during the last 3 episodes of the Marathon. She said the prison rape scene hurt her spirit and she couldn't watch it again.

Lucylastic -> RE: Is anyone watching Outlander? (4/14/2016 8:20:22 AM)

Rape scenes can be a trigger for many people, myself included, what made this so shocking and fascinating to me was the fact that it was male on male rape(ON TV) and the look into black jacks mind.
it was very powerful for me. In many ways.

I agree with you on all points. It was fascinating the me as well on many levels.

DeviantlyD -> RE: Is anyone watching Outlander? (4/14/2016 3:40:51 PM)

I'm with Kay on those particular scenes.

Sorry RS, but those scenes...depicting a character so far away from his soul, attempting to force the impossible from another being, were not in the least bit hot from my perspective. Regarding the branding moment...perhaps I remember it incorrectly, but didn't Black Jack want Jamie to brand himself over his heart? But Jamie did it on the side of his torso. So a bit of defiance there. To answer your question, season two started this past Saturday.

Just chiming in with my opinion here, but I didn't find those scenes to be anything but disturbing and unsettling. The gender of those involved made zero difference for me. Despite the fact I recognize that brutal rapes like these may be a reality, the one solace I find in this is that it is fiction. It really is dispiriting to know that human beings can behave in beyond heinous ways towards each other. Yes I know it exists, but that doesn't mean I have to accept it. (Not suggesting any of you do accept it. Just commenting on my perspective.)

**Note**: I see this as entirely different from, for lack of a better descriptor, BDSM relationships. Hopefully y'all get my meaning.
