Police respond to Melbourne prison riot This just caught my eye as I was scanning the headlines. quote: Victorian Corrections Commissioner Jan Shuard had earlier said the state's prison system was "very ready" for the smoking ban. About 84% of Victorian prisoners are smokers, according to government figures, about five times the rate in the general community. The government said it was introducing the ban to improve the health of prison staff and inmates. I have a feeling that, in some parts of the world, tobacco smuggling will become more lucrative than pot smuggling, if it isn't already.

Cut the water & power, set up a perimeter . . . leave them until they get hungry and start eating each other. By then, cigs won't be an issue anymore.

anyone know if the prisoner's pay for their cigarettes through their own prison employment or if they are more or less given to them, courtesy of the tax payers?

Sometimes I wonder at the priorities of certain authorities .... I hear that in some prisons in the UK they're giving out e-cigarettes. That seems like a sensible halfway house: better health, but less risk of your prison exploding.

Most I have seen and used, had glass, metal and could be used as a weapon with some creativity and when you don't have much to do but figure out what to do with what you have, they might have a bigger problem on their hands. I haven't had a cigarette in many months, but I do still need that e-vap juice. The house smells prettier and so do I, but I still have an addiction. Try to take my e-vap and you would have a one woman riot on your hands. Straight jackets and gags might provide a detriment for some of us addicts.

There's a great set of pics on YouTube posted by a bloke who'd swapped from cigarettes to e cigs. They're before and after pics of X Rays of his lungs. His lungs look squeaky clean in the 'after' pics (taken a few years later) and he says the docs have told him that those are the sorts of X Rays they'd expect to see of the lungs of someone who'd given up cigarettes cold turkey. Far as I can make out, e cigs are great. You are onto a winner. Good for you for getting yourself off baccy.

Now I can justify my new addiction! Thanks, the guys at the gas station will thank you too because they now have a regular customer for years to come. I actually use less as time goes on as I would like to have control over myself. I'm already planning what I will buy with the money saved. Incentive. Good health wasn't enough. I never said addicts were smart.

They aren't "harmless," but are incredibly less harmful. Nicotine in the e-vap juice, as you have related to us by your example, is still addictive. But, nicotine, in and of itself, isn't the big problem with cigarettes. The big problem with cigarettes is the "other stuff" that you get. The nicotine is just the addictive substance. If you "have to" smoke, e-vap is better for you than smoking. As PFH has related, they are likened to quitting, for a smoker. The e-vap lobby should go after the airline industry, commuter/passenger trains, etc. to get their products on the "not banned" list. I do not use an e-cig. I quit cold turkey (no before/after lung x-rays) over 17 years ago. No point in using nicotine again. lol

I gave up cold turkey for three years...then wham...i was back on the damn stuff, life changes stress and health issue(not related to smoking)all in one go, I reached for the devils nick o teen again. I tried simple e cigs, but they left me feeling wanting more of a mouthful and throatful of smoke, so I went onto vape. Felt much better....Im getting there but its slow going...

My dad finally quit after numerous failed attempts. He used to chew nicotine gum a lot, and I think he used the nicotine patch a few times. I've also heard of medications like Wellbutrin and Chantix, although I think those come with some side effects.

I don't know all the side effects, but one that seems pretty common is if you smoke while taking Chantix, it, apparently, causes your body to react wildly, and not in a good way. I tried the gum, and nic-fitted my way through a month. I tried the patch, and nic-fitted my way through that month. Since going cold turkey, I've had fewer nic-fits than in either of those months. The gum and the patch work for some, but not so much for me. I must be one of those "digital" people, where it's either on, or it's off, with no middle ground. Either I'm going to use nicotine and smoke, or I'm going to be able to quit by denouncing nicotine completely.

Welbuterin is one of the milder drugs for depression. It has a side effect of controlling the craving for nicotine and is often prescribed for that side effect. Since it became PC to put predatory taxes on cigarettes; the business in smuggling cigarettes is slowly but steadily increasing. Cigarettes are still round $5.00 a carton without all the taxes imposed. Load a container for shipment overseas at dirt cheap. Apply fake tax stamps and supply false lading bills to offload in the state of your target market... ginormous profit. But, it is the guy that makes a run over a state line to pick up smokes for his bud sat work from a reservation smoke shop that gets busted for smuggling.
