Zonie63 -> State of emergency declared in Ferguson MO (8/10/2015 1:43:56 PM)

http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/michael-brown-shooting/protesters-arrested-while-marking-year-michael-browns-death-n407236

The weekend apparently had mostly peaceful protests, and the violence started last night. Now, they've declared a state of emergency.

Nothing new here .... Just more of the same...loot...beat people up... Shoot at cops... Get shot... My poor son was a good boy bullshit...pepper spray cops in the face...telling them in detail how they are going to fuck their daughters. Same old assholes.. I've an idea... Let's pull back the police and have the department of justice man the streets and stop the good gentle first amendment rights protesters from looting and shooting...sounds like fun to me.

Yep, the same old lies and the usual suspects...

One speaker, Yonasda Lonewolf, declared: “Mike Brown was murdered here. This was the epicenter of the movement of ‘black lives matter.’ We still cannot get justice.” She added, “It’s time for us to not seek justice but to demand justice.” Lonewolf is the granddaughter of Minister Louis Farrakhan, leader of the Nation of Islam. ~Source

Not good. At this point anger needs to be replaced with some kind of constructive platform.

The problem as I see it: there's no exact remedy for racism. Even if everyone agreed that "something needs to be done," the next question would be "WHAT?"

• Many local municipalities experience budgetary pressure. Rather than raise taxes or cut services in response, things that are often politically unpalatable, they turn to law enforcement and courts to make up the difference in tickets and fines. Some can also increase the number of finable offenses and stiffen the penalties.

• Officers, already disproportionately deployed and arrayed in so-called “high-crime” neighborhoods — invariably poor and minority neighborhoods — are then charged with doing the dirty work. The increase in sheer numbers of interactions creates friction with targeted populations and ups the odds that individual biases will be introduced.

• Without fail, something eventually goes horribly wrong.

• We look at the end interaction, examining the officers for bias and the suspect for threatening behavior, rather than looking at the systems that necessitated the interactions.

• There is blood on everyone’s hands, including the hands still clutching the tax revenue that those cities needed but refused to solicit, instead shifting the mission of entire police departments “from ‘protect and serve’ to ‘punish and profit,’ ”

Quick Answer: Don't charge the police with revenue collection schemes and instead charge them with the mission of protect and serve.

Quick Answer II: End the Drug War

More of those violent left wingers we were assured didn't exist.

I think it would be more accurate to call them "social justice warriors" (with all the irony that entails).

Kevin Labriado, 48, of the 1500 block of Comet Drive, was charged Sunday with two counts of second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer and child endangerment. Police said in court records that Labriado rammed a police car from behind about 8:35 p.m. Friday in the 1100 block of Riverview Boulevard. The two officers in the car, 33 and 25 years old, were on patrol at the time and believed it was an accident until Labriado struck their squad car a second time.

Labriado tried to drive off but struck a city fire hydrant, court records say. Police grabbed him, and as they were arresting him, Labriado yelled several times that "This is for the black people!" Several other people were in the car with Labriado at the time, including his 5-year-old daughter, police said. The officers were not seriously hurt. They and everyone in Labriado's vehicle, including the girl, were treated at a hospital for minor injuries.

I'd like to know just what exactly was he doing "for the black people"? Sowing other blacks that they too can cowardly ram a police car from behind? Showing other blacks that they too can attack police officers who aren't doing anything to them...more so, if they're white police officers? (hmmm...like the 'OJ nullification'). Showing other black men how they can be a 'hero'?

Unbelievable....

quote:

From Source:
The night also brought a new development to Ferguson: sometime after midnight, "a group of five white men who call themselves the Oath Keepers arrived on the scene," St. Louis Public Radio reports. "They carried assault weapons, which raised alarm from protesters."

St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar called the armed presence "both unnecessary and inflammatory," according to NBC News.

The Oath Keepers members said they had come to help keep the peace. The group says its core membership is made up of veterans and active-duty members of the military and first responders, such as police and firefighters.

How can we make this already very tense situation MORE of a powder keg? Let's add in so heavily armed vigilantes whom will take the law into their own hands.....

If those Oath Keepers actually were veterans and active duty members of the Military; wouldn't they understand that adding armed thugs whose loyalty is questionable at best, into an area suffering from negative stability in government? Since they would have seen the likes of it in Iraq and Afghanistan in recent wars. So when something happens (and it eventually will) and those armed vigilantes used their excessive firepower on Americans; what will the police do?

Arrest them.

Which creates a whole new and very ugly dimension to things in Ferguson. Now besides accusation of police brutality, its of police 'disarming' Americans of their guns. These Oath Keepers are not helping the situation, and will only learn to late of that fact. Unless of course they are there to cause trouble.....

On another note....

In the same source is a photo of a black man holding a very small child. What? Couldn't find a babysitter so daddy could go to a protest? Who the fuck brings a very small child to a situation that could prove violent and/or deadly? BAD PARENT!

Maybe by not beating up and robbing reporters... that is why they are there... hired security for reporters trying to get the story out without being assaulted and their gear stolen.

Maybe, in the interest of racial equality, the police should stand back and give them room to destroy.
Or maybe they should have been hauling in the rioters by the truck load, then these guys wouldn't even be there.
Vigilantism breaks out when law enforcement breaks down.

kdsub -> RE: State of emergency declared in Ferguson MO (8/11/2015 11:23:58 AM)

Bama so far this time the law is not breaking down... they are arresting looters. It is impossible to stop looting when there is no way to know who, walking on the street is a looter until they do it. Local business owners have armed themselves and are guarding their stores this time and the police are doing their duty.

Things are different... The story in the Post says the Oath Keepers were hired as security by a news service for protection. They are also offering their service to business owners. I do not blame them for doing so... they are not on the streets pointing weapons for show but providing a needed service.

So Joe grossly distorted the story, what a shock.

kdsub -> RE: State of emergency declared in Ferguson MO (8/11/2015 11:33:28 AM)

Bama I think he is right that there is potential for confrontation because of their color and the jobs they are hired to do... but it just cannot be helped. There are few alternatives... I keep waiting for the DOJ to come in show our local police how it should be done... but surprisingly and curiously they seem to want to set back and watch rather than help... I wonder why... maybe because they would have to do the same damn things our police are doing and will look like the fools they are.

I agree. Besides DOJ doesn't do riot control.

This is I-70 being shut down by protesters.

1. Would you attempt to go thru?
2. Should the police just stand by and let the protesters deny your travel against your will?
3. Should the police arrest the driver for assault with a deadly weapon?
4. Should the protestors be arrested for illegally detaining someone (sometimes it is called kidnapping, sometimes other things so not going to get into a pissing battle over exactly what we think it is)?

The police should keep the road open.

Yes, and think of the outcry if they do their jobs.
