Mawine -> Leather Bondage Hoods (9/8/2015 1:51:54 PM)

Hellloooo! i wondered if I could get some thoughts. I'm going to be trying to find a way to get used to a bondage hood so that next time my occasional bondage play partner is free she might be surprised. I know she's always wanted to try something more than a blindfold on a sub. I'm kinda scared of it a little, but have come up with a plan to try and acclimate to the hood. For reference it's this one.

I'm thinking I should try to wear the hood for say fifteen minutes to begin with. It won't be locked on or anything like that, or even closed tight. It'll be just a case of wearing it for long enough that I can start feeling comfortable enough to be less afraid of it. I have a good friend who I could trust to be there if I felt like I might freak out or need someone there for safety, so that end is covered. My hope would be to try to extend the period of wear a bit, perhaps up to an hour or so. Perhaps as I get more comfortable make sure someone else is present and try closing the buckles when I'm a bit more comfortable?

What do people think? Is there anything I should keep and eye on or be aware of?

I got that exact same one.

I wear it for hours at a time, but the again, I'm weird, as it calms me down instead of being a stressor.

Breathing is an issue because of the limitation of access. Don't play in it when you know you're going to cry or be induced to cry. Taking it off takes a while, and it's not worth the risk.
Likewise, don't be alone with it on, or attempt to sleep with it. Suffocation risks are too high.

Lastly, I'd recommend against trying it on loosely to get used to it, because, again because breathing access is so restrictive, it's actually much harder to breath in while on loose, or during the putting on/take off process.
Fully laced and buckled breathing is much more relaxed, and almost no rebreathing occurs. While it's loose you will always rebreath limiting your oxygen and increasing panic.

Because of this he never puts it on me while my hands are restrained, and I facilitate the process of lacing by holding the breathing hole in place, tight against my mouth, with my hands until he's got the entire thing fully secured.

Thanks, I'll keep in mind that it'll need to be tightened. As I said, I do have a friend who thinks I'm insane but will be there if needs be. SO I'll make sure someone's with me.

I happened across this thread so I apologize for being late to the party.
Having never worn a hood, I can't provide any advice to the OP, but, I did look up the URL and was surprised by two oddities:
1. The referenced hood does NOT look anything like a BEGINNER's hood!
2. The price seems suspiciously inexpensive (too inexpensive for all that leather)

With regard to #1, UllrsIstar is very experienced, so, I can fully understand her being in the hood for hours (and I appreciate her viewpoint that it lowers her stress levels as she must be a strong Myers-Briggs "I" personality); but I would wonder, for the OP, whether this kind of hood is at all a good choice for starters.

As for #2, I realize the description says "PVC leather", whatever that means, but it must be more polyvinylchloride than leather at that price (or, hoods just are a hellova lot cheaper than, say, my $30 padded leather cuffs)?

PS: The OP may wish to consider "other" less-restrictive hoods as "beginner" projects...

The first pic you showed Crumpets is a rip off from this company

WHile they have changed the image, originally it had that blue background. The people at sinvention were one of my suppliers and friends when I had my BDSM store and I sold more than one of them at the retail price of 450$ Can.
Its a stunning item and feels gorgeous. latigo leather on the straps, exquisite stitching, beautiful leather
Extreme restraints started to use a pakistan leather version soon after and undersold them, the quality was lousy and then ebay, ali express started selling them which is obviously what the first pic is.

A cheap version is fine, i have about four hoods now, all of different quality and material. I certainly like all of sinventions toys, they are amazing quality, but I cant justify spending that much on a toy ....especially when it sits in the toy bag longer than it does on a head.

I do like the bottom gif tho....
