Every time I hear the news on the radio
Or read a news paper
I die inside just a little bit more
Because it’s horrible
What’s wrong with the world?
All of the hatred
Towards fellow men and women
Just because they happen to have been born
With a different coloured skin
We are all human
We are all members of the same race
Why can some people not see that?
Because children do
Children of all colours and all religions
Will play happily together in the schoolyard
And this is the way it should be
How can the colour of someone’s skin
Have any relevance on the type of person they are?
How can people hate somebody that they don’t know?
Hate somebody that they never even met just because
Their skin is a different colour to their own
Get some perspective
We are supposed to be a civilised race
Why are so many people unable to see that we are all the same?
We all have the same dreams
We cry the same tears and we feel the same pain
We all want to love and be loved
And live in peace
I don’t want to be part of a society
That segregates and discriminates
The truth of the matter is
There is good and bad in everyone
And it has nothing to do with the colour of skin
I detest racism, its vile and repugnant
And it makes my blood boil
When I hear about hate crime on the news
Because nobody should be victimised
Over anything as trivial as the colour of their skin
Where does this hatred come from?
Is it a lack of understanding?
Or is it a learnt behaviour?
Because I look back at the children
In the play ground
Happily playing together
And I only wish
That everyone could look at the world
Through the eyes of the children.
