Not my Czech TV, I was not aware of that. So the story is a complete fabrication ? Austrians are not ssrambling to buy guns ?

I'm a news junkie - it's on 24/7 here and this is the first I've seen of it.

Even with all the regular first-hand media reports showing and interviewing migrants and locals at border crossings (with all the riots that have also happened), there hasn't been a single hint or mention at anyone, anywhere, across the EU or Scandinavia, 'scrambling for guns'.

It's a right-wing, neonazi asshat hoax in an effort at shit-stirring and scaremongering the populace.

'Czech TV' could refer to a TV company, as you clearly assumed, or it could refer to 'TV in the Czech Republic'. My guess is blynymph was talking about the latter, though - hinted at by the fact that she referred to 'czech tv' without capital letters.

If she meant TV in the Czech Republic broadly then the "Neonazi" accusation is even more sweeping. But the WND story refers to a "Czech TV" news report, and "Czech TV" is Česká televize. In any case, the offensive "neonazi" accusation, capitalized or otherwise (she posts it both ways), remains unsupported.

what you just posted is a near classic example of "absence of evidence is not evidence of absence."

because its not on the news you see, doesn't mean its not happening.

a little to that point, the accounts im seeing online are relatively new.

and so--the initial report and the gun merchants are what---fictitious? or even worse, "neo-Nazi ploys?"

rather then be inanely dismissive and absurdly accusatory, how about looking for the truth?

As did LadyConstanze, above ... "Just for the heck of it I called the Austrian embassy in London, embassies have all the info from the government and chambers of commerce.

Been transferred around a bit and ended with a very nice lady, oddly enough gun sales aren't up in Austria, they are aware of the propaganda and said it happens from time to time, tend to be groups with their own agenda who never bother checking with offical channels or verify their claims beyond giving a cherry picked individual who's agenda seems to mesh with theirs."

I watch/listen to several media broadcasts constantly, all day, every day.
Nothing, as yet, has been mentioned or even hinted at.

As an example: when the Kurdish PKK fighters wanted to help kick ISIS out of Aleppo while the Turkish soldiers stood by their tanks, quite a few media outlets filmed and reported that ordinary Kurdish people were gathering in small groups, buying guns and waiting to cross the border to assist their PKK brothers.

Because the EU (in general) tend to view guns with healthy antipathy, anything that indicates a rise in anything to do with guns tends to get semi-headline news even if it is just a passing news story.
Unlike the US where guns are often viewed as a good and necessary thing to have, quite the opposite is true over here.
If there were any truth in that story, it would have hit the media radar somewhere; and it hasn't.

ETA: And Kirata's link just states that more were sold than last year because of fears of migrants and twilight burglars.
That doesn't shout to me that Europe is 'scrabbling for guns'.

No, as I said, I believe she was referring to WND, as per lovmuffin's link in his OP. Here's some info on WND which one might think could be support for that 'offensive neonazi accusation':

"WND (formerly WorldNetDaily or, as it was affectionately known to its fans, WingNutDaily or WhirledNutDaily) is an extremist conservative website founded by Joseph Farah in 1997 as a project of his Western Center for Journalism.[1] It espouses a fundamentalist Christian, creationist view of the world, and regularly engages in racist attacks against African-Americans. Its political leanings are right-wing, pro-"Christian right," and supposedly pro-United States, with strongly libertarian economic views. Its coverage provides multiple sides of the issues: the conservative viewpoint and the ultra-conservative viewpoint. It is far to the right of Fox News.

While they present themselves as news, WND is essentially a tabloid for radical right-wingers. Their publishing standards are rock-bottom, and they have run stories from extremely questionable sources on many, many occasions.[2][3] They are best known for distributing Ann Coulter's insipid columns, as well as articles written by noted political analysts Chuck Norris, Pat Boone and Charlie Daniels. They recently added disgraced baseball bigot John Rocker as well, indicating they've decided to drop the dog whistles and go with overt racism.

The scary thing is that this bilge is actually slightly influential, with made-up bullshit from WND making its way out the mouths of wingnut congressmen and cable TV pundits far too often.[4]

What makes you think they would cover it in England, it violates the narrative that nobody in Europe wants guns.

Actually, the link "just" disproves your manfiestly false claim that there hasn't been a single hint or mention at anyone, anywhere, across the EU or Scandinavia, 'scrambling for guns'. But I'll grant you that "Europe now scrambles for guns" is equally false.

Because all the New Channels in the UK cover world news. If the story were true it would have at least been covered by one of them.

I still don't see that a right-wing report (from a notoriously dubious source) that there has been a mild increase in gun sales this year as a "European scrambles for guns" headline that hasn't even warranted any mention in broadcast media.

There has been more coverage in increased police presence at the Calais camp next to the Eurotunnel entrance than any mention of increased gun sales anywhere in Europe.

It's no more than American gun-nut pipe-dream fantasy in thinking it has any more significance than Walmart selling a few extra pregnancy test kits and claiming it's a baby boom happening on your doorstep.

Storm in a teacup; much a do about nothing.

ETA: I'm not saying the story is fabricated, more like stretching the truth a tad to try scaremongering people into thinking it's a major epidemic when in reality it is of no significance at all.

Mountain and molehill come to mind here.
