Wandering11 -> Site slowing down? (11/24/2015 7:06:56 PM)

So in the past year I've noticed a slow down of sorts of online sites. Specifically this one and FL. One could assume that reason at least here would be the name switch and some didn't follow over. Or perhaps the 50 shades hype has dialed down a bit resulting in less out side curiosity. Anyone else noticed this and have any idea why or if I just came around during a high activity period.

Define slowing down. Are you talking about new people joining, forum activity, or perhaps something else?

All sites like this go through an upswing of new people joining from the period (in the US) from around Thanksgiving through New Year's. OKCupid did a study on it a few years ago and the trend happens because of the reasons that you'd generally expect. People who are single are feeling that extra holiday pressure to meet someone, there's more time off from work and school, social obligations are different, etc. There's another peak that happens again closer to Valentine's day. If you watch tv, you'll see an increase in ads during certain times of year to reflect this, especially for certain dating sites.

If you're talking about forum activity, that's where this site and FL part ways. FL, being more of a social site than a dating site, isn't exactly hurting for activity. There's more posts and comments in the larger groups (those with 50,000 or more) than you see in all of the sections of this site combined. I can't speak for anybody else but my friend feed has plenty of folks reading, commenting, and posting events.

In my opinion, CM/CS has trouble from various issues in the past year. The most recent of which are the posts from the folks creating sock puppets and/or folks using the forums specifically to harass other people. Considering there have been a ridiculous number of ToS violations on the forums recently, it's no big surprise that a number of people have stopped posting or are posting less at this current time. That's after the site took a hit from the name change. After the mess that was made by Mod3. Not to mention there are some other undesirable characters running around the place. It's not exactly the kind of atmosphere that a lot of people want to spend their internet time.

The Fifty Shades phenomenon hasn't really slowed on the other site. (God, help me, that damn flick premiered on HBO recently and they'll play it 600 times at least before it falls off of the rotation.) I don't think that part is quite over yet.

The P&R section is the last really active part as far as I can see... Personally, I'd prefer no activity to that alternative. But I don't want to rain on people's parades. People obviously like the section so good on them. I'd post if there were some interesting threads but to be honest, the last time I found a thread really interesting on here was a long time ago so I don't post much.

LP,
I ended up seeing 50SoG myself recently, despite myself. And found it not as bad as I had imagined. It was very tame, kinda boring but how about that ending LOL. Not even a cliff hanger, just stopped half way through the movie![&:]

CS has been horribly slow for months. Either no one cares or they lack the skills to make repairs. Either way, performance is in the crapper.

I heard the toy collection was cool to look at. I'm afraid that would be my only interest in the thing.

Oh, I thought you saw it.
Welllll, I wouldn't go out of my way to. Thats my review. And certainly not until the sequel comes out, since they basically only released half the film and to see the ending you're apparently expected to pay twice. Shamless money grab, but the housewife-pulpfiction feel does come through quite well when translated to movie so I'd say if someone liked the book, they would probably find the movie pretty acceptable.

I'm not seeing the site itself being slow at all.
There's been the occasional times when access has been down due to server errors but I haven't noticed any slow down of the site when I access it and I'm over 5,000 miles from the site on another continent.

Perhaps the slowness is local to your end or even your device/PC is at fault.

Classic line. You should have been a system administrator. [;)]

I call it as I see it.

If there's only one or a handful of people suffering but others are fine, that would indicate a local problem, not the site as a whole.
Simple logic. [:D]

it might be just a server issue the service here on the west coast is fine only occasional problems for me even fast response time for support and mods too

Slowing down . . . sure, a bit. Feels more like invasion of the body snatchers, only people are replaced with socks instead of pods.

Way to sugar coat things, RS.
